It's not a perfect system, but it's the best one we have. Similar to economic liberalism and democracy in my opinion. |

I grew up with lawyers in the family. I think most are good, but some... With many there is a whole mind set that just goes beyond the written law into the area of "legal ethics" (not an oxymoron really). It is those rules that many lawyers live thier professional lives by. |

I think most lawyers are good, but like with anything else, there are unfortunately some bad apples as well. |

Other: I really don’t have a strong opinion on them one way or the other. They are like any other profession. Some good, some bad. |

That's funny 24, I've never seen you vote "other" in a poll before. |

My experience with lawyers is actually not professional. Back in the day, a girl friend and I use to go out dancing every Saturday night. We would go to these posh clubs and many of the men there were young lawyers. I spent many an evening talking to lawyers and eventually dating a few of them. What I observed is that they were not especially in touch with their own emotional states and, to a large degree, lived in their heads. I also did not like the way some of them interacted with women in general. Instead of just having a conversation, they would begin to reel off all that they owned, the car, the watch, the townhouse as if that was all a woman was interested in and they really wanted to make a good impression. In addition, when I did meet one or two who would talk about his psychoemotional state, it was usually because he was obsessing on how his ex girlfriend or wife had treated him so badly. |

All lawyers are extremely unintelligent. I thought the Gvok unit would bite. In any event, that was my 'non-emoticon test post' for the month. |

Looks like I'm the only "bad" vote. I think lawyers have helped us become a litigation-happy society, mostly to line their pockets. All this has done is drive up costs to the consumer. When most of the cost of a ladder at Home Depot is due to regulation (pushed by lawyers) and lawsuits, one has to wonder if lawyers work in our best interests. People are more likely to sue someone for some imagined slight then buck up and act like an adult. It would be amusing if it weren't so sad. Interesting sidenote: most members of Congress are or have been lawyers. Another interesting sidenote: There are more lawyers in Harris County, Texas, than all of Japan. Something just isn't right in this equation. I am not making these comments to flame a certain member of this site who happens to be a lawyer. This is my opinion of the profession and it has been for a long time. |

Lawyers are neither better nor worse than society in general, just wealthier. Hence my hatred.

Defense attorneys don't push lawsuits in the manner you describe. Neither do most plaintiff's attorneys for that matter. |

I believe all lawyers do what they do to line their own pockets, hence my comment below...
...at the expense of others. |
