I recorded about 4 hours worth of programs last night , including Doctor Who, Very Little Britian, The Bill and Parkingson. Out dancing last night (at Gosford)..

The fellow who is the narrator in the movie HGTTG (which I am yet to see - waiting for the DVD to be released) was one of Parky's guests, and something he said was very funny. When asked by Parky : How did you deal with bullies when you living at boarding school ? His answer : tell them "please don't hit me - as you'll only give me a huge erection ...." :rotfl: :loling:

So - how many of us were bullied when at school ?
And what did you do about it ?

I stood up to anyone who tried to pick on me and refused to be a victim. I was no fun so they didn't.

Not a whole lot you can do. If you fight back, you're suspended along with the bully. I know, I have had this happen more than once. The victim is also punished.

That has been my experience as well.

Me too.

You report it to a teacher, nothing gets don, so you finally take action yourself, and then they can't move quickly enough to suspend you both.

I used to use sarcasm a lot. Got me a few black eyes but it was incredibly funny.

Bullies tend to not appreciate sarcasm for some reason.

I don't understand why. It takes a special person to come up with a killer sarcastic comment in the face of a broken nose!

Then you'd be called a "f*g" and you'd get the crap beaten out of you by everyone else.

What you do (if you can't stand up to the bully one-to-one) is do something dirty. Make sure he knows who it is who did it, too. Back in second grade I got picked on, being the new kid and a bit skinnier than my classmates. Rather than run home to Mom and Dad I decided to get even. I found a rock that I could conceal somewhat in my fist and I coldcocked him as he came out of the school. Plain and simple. He dropped like a sack of flour in front of all of his friends. I then rung his bell with a good kick to the wedding tackle as he was on his hands and knees.

"Who's next?" got no response from his buddies. I was never picked on again. I wound up playing baseball with most of them in junior high and high school in following years.

Of course, this happened back in the late 60s, when schools weren't so PC. Sometimes, though, the simple approach works.

It's been my experience that bullies only bully because they think no one will strike back at them.
The one and only time I ever had to deal with this sort of thing, I ignored it until my anger built so high that I lashed out with one shot and put the goober on his butt.
That was the end of it.
It's no fun for a bully to pick on someone if they have to take a right cross to the jaw.

It's hard to cold cock someone over the internet. ;)

Time to put something here
I have never really been bullied, I have always been one of the bigger kids in class so that always helped. But I was also quite, which on occasion enticed some “big shot” to say something funny, but again I was usually bigger then the big shot (and if not bigger defiantly a match) so all I really had to do was stair them down and they would back off.

The only physical confrontation I was ever in was when some problem child tripped me on my way into class. I quickly got up, grabbed him by his shirt, and held him against a near by wall asking what his problem was. That is until a teacher walked in and told me to stop and asked us what happened. I told the teacher my story, they kid told her his, and then the teacher ordered me to sit down for class and told the kid never to be in her class room again. After the kid left the teacher came over to me and said “good job”.

I don't now if this counts, I was once harassed by a motor cynical grange when I didn’t bring out their TV fast enough when I use to work in the ware house of circuit city.

Mmmmm . Maybe you should requisition a funny bone . (And I don't mean the one between ya legs :evil1: ).

His point was that he was telling the bullies that he would only enjoy getting bashed up so there was no point.

He doesn't need to be f*g to enjoy getting bashed , some people have very strange fetishes (ie S&M).

^^^And AB was telling you that the kid would be called a derogatory name and probably get the crap beaten out of him anyway if he dared to tell a bully what the man suggested in the piece you linked. That is what would most likely happen here in America. Kids are brutal that way.

Unfortunately, violence doesn't always work. I got bullied a lot in elementry school. Most of it was psychological rather than physical. But one day I dropped the principal bully in question (knocked out two of his teeth). Then I stood back and challenged the others.

They proceeded to swarm me and beat the tar out of me.

All within twenty feet of two teachers, who have an uncanny ability to look the other way when all this bullying goes on.

Fortunately when I got to high school I got a paper route and made friends with a lot of dudes who shall we say were "gritty". After that it was smooth sailing. There's something to be said for being in your own "mafia" at school. If some big clown I couldn't handle tried to lean on me then I would later summon my friends and the problem would be "sorted out".

We even tried to defend vulnerable kids at my high school from being bullied and terrorized, but certain teachers didn't like that. It seems that public school educators are transfixed with "social darwinism", which is indeed ironic, if you know what I mean.

In grade 12 I was suspended for defending a younger kid who was being bullied by miscreants attempting to burn his face with a cigarette lighter. Thanks.

Welcome to the public school system, where no good deed goes unpunished.

A little bit cynical and bitter ?

Yup.

And I hear that not much has changed in the last couple of decades.

Except that bully gangs now use baseball bats, knives, and guns to further their intimidation, with nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

My best friends teenage son got stabbed last year right in front of his school for no reason at all. Nothing happened to the perpetrators except that they were sent for "counselling".

Public schools for our children should not be like a prison sentence. They should enjoy the same protection of the law the same as adults. If some guys I knew burnt my face with a cigarette lighter they would be charged by the police and my lawyers would just kill them in a civil lawsuit.

Unfortunately we live in a culture that won't deal with this issue. I'm not blaming liberals or conservatives over this issue; this time they're equally to blame. It's so bad for some youths that they are driven to the point of suicide or taking guns to school.

And I don't see any changes on the horizon. Most of the teens that I know who are in public high school confess to me that sometimes they are very afraid of certain thugs and dangerous "swarming" incidents. Lately in my neck of the woods we have had a tragic string of assaults and even murders of teens in public places by other teens. Violence among teenage girls even is on the increase.

The "bullying" problem isn't getting better. It's getting worse. A lot of parents now are considering private schools, religious schools, or home schooling due to this situation. Other parents just don't care. Many kids who are bullies or victims come from broken homes and an already poor family environment.

"Eyes Wide Shut". yeah, that pretty well describes the situation.

Thanks for listening.
