Survival at its utmost; could you survive?

How about a Voyager Movie
Given any reasonably plausable scenario occuring to hijack society back 300 years, could you survive? Could you go Grizzly Adams and live off the land? Start your own fires? Catch your own food? Barter with your neighbors?

What if you had all of your money in the bank and the banks went broke?

What if society has broken down? I do not have a firearm. I do not have stockpiles of food.
I could however live on the land, for a bit.

If a world wide holocaust came about and we had to live without our normal rations in life would you fold like a two dollar chair or be able to survive?

I know this sounds primal but what if? What if society freaks out?
Does my family get taken away in the undertow?

Do you even know what to do?

I've got a pretty good idea.

I own firearms. Fishing gear. Know a few wild growing edible plants. It wouldn't be easy, but I could manage...

Same as Swidden.

I go camping quite often, I don't take anything modern apart from a tent, my car, a fishing rod and a torch. I can start fires from scratch, catch my own food etc.

I'm not saying it would be easy - far from it, but I suppose I could.

I suppose if they had to do it to survive, most people could, no matter how much they know about surviving on a minimum of supplies etc.

Ever read George R. Stewart's "Earth Abides"?

It's a bit on the older side of science fiction stories but it tells the tale of humanity after a massive plague. But it's plot would suit this topic.

Never even heard of it, but I may search for it.

Yes .

But it would be hard work , and I would likely go hungry from time to time unless I lived it "up north" where there is still plenty of game and plenty of fish and the natural ecology is more undisturbed .

My wife would not be happy though .

As I recall, the central thesis in "Earth Abides" is that survival is far, far, far harder than we might think.

It might be extremely hard, but I would find a way to survive.

My whole thought here is very basic. Not 'could you survive' but more could you imagine a change of that order, throwback several hundred years for an undetermined period of time?
Here is a simple one. Electric power goes out. Not for a few hours or two days (misery) but for 6 months. This means everything changes exponentionally (did I spell that right?)

I would adapt.

Jag,

Whatever the primitive circumstances (for however long), I would adapt as well. I wouldn't have much of a choice.

It would be extremely difficult, but I think I could do it. But I don't know how I would pay the bills. ;)

I'd probably be okay in Nebraska with tons of family and the old family farm that we can all put back into use. There's enough firearms amongst my extended family to hold off a small army.
However, in California, I doubt I would survive. Given the amount of people in the area and the relative amount of resources, you'd have year long rioting.
