Yes, it's a question of emphasis and who is the power behind the prayer / spell. Your fad comment is my impression as well.

Just as a side issue, I've heard that Rowlings is an admitted Satanist. Whether this is just sarcasm or an attempt to be controversial, I do not know. This might have something to do with the disdain and caution toward the Harry Potter world by certain christian groups and this declaration by the new Pope.

Sorry I don't have a link for any of this; but I can't believe I'm the only one whose heard about this aspect of it.

I wonder if the Pope ever sat down and actually read the Harry Potter series.

I find it especially ironic and hypocritical that the Christian followers would be warned about spells and magic, when the very imaginary figure they purport to follow, did nothing but cast spells and magic. He even concocted potions..Even woke from the dead! Now I guess he is the walking undead ! Thats scary!

And I am getting more annoyed about recieving more and more religious advertisements through my mail. Why do these followers insist on trying to sell their God to me? I don't recieve Satanic ads through the mail ! Who is the pope's marketing agent? I want him to stop sending me JUNK MAIL!

Metaphysically/Theologically speaking, magic and miracles are two very different things. One key difference is that with magic, the power that heals and so forth is usually said to be caused by something physical (a magical ring, magical words said in the right order, etc..) or to reside in and belong to a powerful person whereas with miracles the power is always God's Power. The idea of "faith healers" is pretty much a media term because even people who go to see somebody like Benny Hinn do not believe that Hinn has any healing power but rather understand that the power and mover and shaker in the miracles is always God.
