Should "The Mind's Eye" have been followed up?

Until this weekend, every time I watch this episode, I always wonder why there wasn't a follow-up to Geordi's situation. It was one of those "inner light" type episodes where something really serious happend the the person in question and then next week they were better. However, after watching this episode last night, I was started to wonder where exactly they could have taken the story. I mean in a way they did follow up with the whole Sela thing, but Geordi has a lapse in memory, and Troi says it was going to take a long time to recover. I was assuming that this lapse of memory was just about what happened on the Romulan ship, so he was able to remember everything else. Now, after I saw the episode again, I am glad they left it open ended with Geordi confused. I think it was a great way for the viewer to use his/her imagination about what happened next, kind of like what happened in ENT's Detained (Even though that whole plotline could have been a subplot of the Temperal Cold War). So with that being said, I pose this question. Should ME have been followed up on, and given the episodic nature of TNG, did it really constitute a follow up.

Now as for the episode itself, this is one that never get's talked about, but was still great anyway. One of the things I loved about season 4 was that it did feel like an arc season, building up the whole Romulan/Klingon/Federation angle and getting ready for the inevitable civil war. For those who always say that Geordi didn't get developed enough or he didn't have many episodes, I say that in the first 4 seasons alone, he had quite a few, and they were all either good, very good, or just flat out excellent.

Oh and this episode had one of the most unintentionally funny moments in the series. It was when Geordi was forced to kill O'brian and when he shot the phaser there was absolutly no reaction at all. And then when Geordi sits down, the other guys go about thier business like nothing happened. Great scene. :loling:

So what do you guys think about this episode?

Actually, I found it kind of painful to watch Geordi go through all that. When they had him strapped to that chair, I always wonder what kind of horrifying images they were showing him :ermm: . At least the Romulans weren't too sadistic.

A good episode, actually. I sure hated that Klingon guy who was in on it; there was a certain satisfaction when the Klingons took him into custody at the end.

I too found all that painful, and when people say there are no dark aspects to TNG, This episode is contrary to the rule.

I think there are a few dark aspects to TNG. This and Picards torture in Chain of Cammond spring to mind.

There might have been at least some mention of it at some point. At least to suggest that Geordi was recovering well (maybe a brief conversation between him and Troi in an opening scene of a later episode that season). It may not have warranted an episode like "Family" as an epilogue to "Best of Both Worlds," but something to suggest that the healing process took a bit of time.

Yeah, it was hard to watch TNG's "nice guy" go through this...
