This idea stemmed from something I read in the games forum... I have a manual transmission. Always have. I think it's better. When i'm driving an automatic, I don't know what to do with my left hand! The only trouble is, it's a pain in the ass if you are trying to show off, and you crunch your gears! |

Manual. I've always owned and driven manuals , though this is my first 4x4. I have regularly driven automatics (eg a Prado , a Landcruiser as hirecars / company vehicles) and the experience is not any where near as smooth as a manual driven by a skilled experienced driver. I suspect an automatic 4x4 would be very bad news off road - you just don't have the same feel as with a manual transmission and manual clutch. |

An automatic 4x4 would be awful! Imagine going up a hill, and the damn thing wont shift down! |

If it's got two (not three) peddles - it's an automatic.

I would be more worried going down a very steep incline (only control you would have would be the brake ) , loose traction and you are probably cactus . Not something I like with a manual either - still very :scared:)You can shift down if you want to (to different DR settings - move the lever to a lower gear , or select a different range in the case of an auto diff lock , hub lock (range selector) - but the change in gear / range is very rough - not as good as doing it with a manual (where you have a real feel through the feet and your arse of how you are going). A skilled driver can easily shift from 1st through to 4th / 5th (and even 6th if you have it) without any rough transitions (smoothly) , you'll never get that with an automatic. |

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.

I miss my manual, but you sure don't want one if you are going to be in heavy stop-and-go traffic. It'll wear your clutch foot out. My high-school friend and I used to both have manuals (also called standard transmissions here) and when one of us would show off and accidently grind the gears we'd really give each other crap. Does it play any other tunes? Anyway with an automatic and a free right hand I can now eat, drink, adjust the radio, give people the finger and drive at the same time.

Automatic. When driving in San Francisco, you might have a stop sign or stop light on a freaking 45 degree incline. |

Seeing as I have more than one vehicle, I have to answer "both." You might wish to modify the poll... |

All my cars - All six of 'em - had automatic transmission. I wouldn't mind learning how to drive a manual transmission soon. It sure would come in handy especially if I want to try riding a motorbike.
