...When you are proven wrong? I am emotionally strong enough to admit it, and move on knowing the truth. I've done it here quite a few times, and I have 2 other examples to prove it. 1...Most recently, with the Schiavo case, I believed that she was concious. Now, after I got the results from the autopsy, I was wrong. She wasnt aware of her existance. I'm ok with knowing I was wrong, but some people just cant get over the truth of the autopsy results. 2...I watched something on the Discovery Channel last year that with science, disproved anything supernatural about the Bermuda Triangle. I had believed that some supernatural was causing all the strange events there all my life. I have no problem with accepting that. Is it hard admitting being wrong? Or, are you ok with it? |

Depends On The Situation. If I Can See That I'm Clearly Wrong...Then Sure, I Can Change...But Somethings Are Neither Wrong Or Right.....But In The Cases Where They Are...No, I Have No Problem.

I only just today had my very first opinion. I don't know how strong an opinion it is, so I can't tell you how easy it would be to change it. Some people base a great deal of their lives on their opinions, particularly if those opinions are politically of faith based. So they are quite irrational, completely ignoring perfectly logical explanations that refute their opinions. Me? Well, since I believe in one thing (the Blalock's Booty) I'm perfectly willing to be proved wrong as long as you don't try to tell me there's a more perfect booty somewhere in the universe. |

I still claim that Santa Claus owes me $1.50 from a visit many years ago when I was a child. Batteries not included ? What a rip-off artist. And the cookies I left out for him ? Fed them to his reindeer, for crying out loud. No, some opinions I will just never change. It's over between me and Santa. Now they tell me Santa doesn't exist. Nice try. Most people change their name and dissapear after declaring bankrupcy. And my pending lawsuit with the Tooth Fairy? Dissapeared, so they say. Doesn't exist. A figment of my imagination. Right. So where did the cash come from? I followed the money trail but it lead to my parents, who are in on it, too. Right after I didn't get paid for my wisdom tooth under the pillow I noticed that Dad got a new car. What do these people take me for ? Think I can't connect the dots ? I'm supposed to be open-minded ? Yeah, right. None dare call it conspiracy. Oh, and dude, it's the Bermuda cowbell now. |

^^^ Santa Claus is a communist. He treats everyone equally - except for Jews. He hates Jews. I never got a present from Santa Claus

That's very sweet of you. I take back what I said about you in the Dumbass thread Maybe it's just us Canadians - Franko and me both seem to have a thing about Santa. And we can even claim him as a citizen since the North Pole is part of Canada. Canadian self hate  |

It's easy to admit I'm wrong (but only if I think I'm wrong). Sometimes I can't because of a technicallity or someone playing semantics and dictionary definitions with me.....in such case I'll be specific and try to explain all that I meant. Is it easy for you to change your opinion...? This is a good question. It depends if I had the opinion for logical, religious, or emotional reason or changed it because of one. All of those could cause me take a while or to instanly change my opinion. BTW, what a lame question. I still don't know what to think of abortion. I remember the O.J. Simpson trial....and I was a pawn of the lawyers.....when the prosecution spoke I said O.J. didn't. When the defense spoke...I said oh, of course he didn't. But, that is the lawyers job. And religion.... I've had a lot of changes. In fact, whenever an atheist says that people who believe in religion are unintelligent and unscientific...it really hurts my feelings and my pride so I become atheist, plus I want to be intelligent.

I think Defiant was reflecting the fact that there is a continous pressure we face as social beings to have opinions that are "popular". I had a discussion with a bunch of people about this issue a while back, about how hard it would be to persuade someone to change their viewpoint to the complete opposite of what they currently believed. I noticed that a lot of them wanted to present themselves as "open minded" but I was critical of this attitude; in my experience it is often very hard to sway people's opinions that radically, unless it's like "who's going to win the election", or something that will eventually have a proof, like the OJ or Jacko trial.
You're not alone. This is one of the hardest issues I've ever mulled over because it's pretty important. I can argue forcefully pro or con in that debate but in the end, I'm just not sure. |

I will change my opinion IF another has a more logical argument. I would probably bend and conform to Spock's way of seeing things rather easily. I have found, however, that most people don't want to really think things through and get offended if you question the logic of their beliefs. One of the reason I like SisterTrek is because most everybody here is open to taking a logical look at various beliefs, attitudes, and ideas they hold. |

I will absolutely never change an opinion or stance on anything no matter what any one says. I will pick a course and stick to and stand my ground to the last dieing breath, solid as an oak tree. *folds arms across chest* |

Well, on second thought, maybe that was a bit harsh. I will change my opinion if it seems right. |
