I watched Raging Bull for the first time last week, while I was impressed, I dont think it was as good as some rave about, just your stock standard boy-from-the-slums-overcomes-adversity-to-be-a-boxing-champion story. For me, Taxi Driver was his greatest accomplishment, its an Icon of the 70s, is very intense and has a certain undefineable charm that has yet to be copied by any one else. I also liked Bringing out the dead, very dark and Ving Rhames was great. I have yet to see The Aviator or Mean Streets The full list: # The Aviator (2004) # Lady by the Sea: The Statue of Liberty (2004) (TV) # "The Blues" (2003) (mini) TV Series (episode "Feel Like Going Home") # Gangs of New York (2002) # The Concert for New York City (2001) (TV) (segment "The Neighborhood") # Bringing Out the Dead (1999) # Mio viaggio in Italia, Il (1999) ... aka My Voyage to Italy (USA) # Kundun (1997) # Casino (1995) ... aka Casino (France) # Michael Jackson: Video Greatest Hits - HIStory (1995) (V) (video "Bad") # A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies (1995) (TV) # The Age of Innocence (1993) # Amazing Stories: Book Four (1992) (V) (segment "Mirror, Mirror") # Cape Fear (1991) # Goodfellas (1990) ... aka GoodFellas (USA: promotional title (video box title) (poster title)) # Made in Milan (1990) # New York Stories (1989) (segment "Life Lessons") # The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) # Location Production Footage: The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) (V) # Bad (1987) (V) # The Color of Money (1986) # "Amazing Stories" (1985) TV Series (episode "Mirror, Mirror") ... aka Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories (USA: complete title) # After Hours (1985) # The King of Comedy (1983) # Raging Bull (1980) # The Last Waltz (1978) # American Boy: A Profile of: Steven Prince (1978) ... aka American Boy # New York, New York (1977) # Taxi Driver (1976) # Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) # Italianamerican (1974) # Mean Streets (1973) # Boxcar Bertha (1972) # Street Scenes (1970) ... aka Street Scenes 1970 (USA) # Who's That Knocking at My Door (1967) ... aka I Call First (USA: second version title) ... aka J.R. Taxi Driver was very, very good but Goodfellas was staggeringly good. Raging Bull is my next favorite and then The King of Comedy which was not appreciated as it should have been. |

A great director and film maker. And everything featuring DeNiro is A one. Even some of his films that didn't quite make it are still good. I voted for "Taxi Driver" as best classic. "Raging Bull" didn't appeal to me, sorry. And yes, I'm one of the few people on the planet who actually liked "Last Temptation" as a concept film. Note the term "concept", OK ? And special mention to "The Color of Money" ; Paul Newman in one of his better modern roles. |

Oh, man, you are not kidding. Anyone who denigrates this film is a superficial dolt. Jerry Lewis is shockingly good in the movie. By the by, I believe the finest Scorcese flick of all time is Raging Bull, but that's just me. |

THANK GOD, AT LAST SOMEBODY UNDERSTANDS! Jerry Lewis' performance in "King of Comedy" was absolutely magnificent. He not only should have been given an Oscar, he should have ridden into the auditorium on a stallion with people throwing roses at him as he made his way to the stage! What makes Raging Bull such a great movie is not only the great acting and story but the details. Every little detail, even quickly passing scenes and stuff in the background, adds and enhances the story line. I actually vaguely recall, as a kid, seeing Jake LaMotta doing a comedy routine on the Ed Sullivan show. |

Favorite scene in the movie: Jerry is feverishly working free of the tape Rupert has used to restrain him, as Crazy Marsha is about to force her feminine wiles on him. There's tape everywhere. Marsha is gettin' nekkid awful quick. Jerry sees the gun. Here comes Marsha. Jerry grabs the gun and shoots Marsha in the gut. It's a toy pellet gun. And as the psycho fan looms ominously over him, she says to Jerry... "Don't be afraid of Marsha, baby." |

It's a classic Welsby.
It's infamous too in that John Hinkley similary flipped his lid and decided to shoot then President Reagan to win the love of Jodi Foster who played a 13 year old prostitute in the movie. Quite bizarre
