It's common, but I wouldn't say boring.

Well, I would probably carry on the tradition of my middle name. It is a traditional biblical name (actually its Hebrew in origin as many biblical names are) that has been passed down from various women in the family. My mom and I have the same middle name, and that name was my great grandmother’s name. I have cousins who have that name as well, and my grandmother’s names were incorporated into some of my cousins/second cousin's names. My mom’s first name was also my great grandmother’s name (she was named after each one of her grandmothers).

I was given an untraditional first name, and as a result I would probably never suggest to anyone that they name their child that particular name (even though the name works for me). Having the name was too much of a hassle growing up. It was always spelled incorrectly and by coincidence someone famous had the same name. So I received plenty of comments/jokes about that. That person is dead now, so maybe in 50 years no one will immediately draw a parallel (making it safe to recommend the name ).

I would definitely stick with a solid, traditional name that doesn’t rhyme with anything weird, remind too many people of anything or anyone famous in pop culture (unless they have a good solid name) and is very easy to spell.

For my brother, he is a Jr. However, he has never gone by either his first or middle name. He has always been called a derivation of his middle name. Until I was older, I didn’t even know he was a Jr.

If I were to name a kid, I would probably incorporate my middle name or my brother's middle name. My brother’s middle name goes back to my paternal great grandfather (the name skipped my grandfather).

So, overall, I think I would recommend a combination of tradition, practicality and simplicity when naming a baby.

shirley?

My mom wanted to name me Mary Elizabeth, but my dad thought those were too common and he went with Tonya and my mom came up with Lacey.

I prefer Mary Elizabeth to Tonya Lacey.

Nope. That’s my last reply on the name guessing. One of these days you guys are going to hit upon the right name and I won’t be able to deny it. I am trying to avoid that.
