I have the Xbox and a PS2. Both gaming consoles have their advantages and disadvantages. I still contend that the Xbox has higher graphics.

The Sony PS2 is more integrated within the Orient, N. American and Euro markets, while Xbox is still mainly a popular unit in N. America. Personally, I think the Nintendo Gamecube will be this famous company's last gaming console; I'm not sure that there's room for three major consoles for the future. Nintendo will likely continue to make hand-held portables and churn out a lot of software games.

I will probably end up getting the Xbox 360 and the PS3 when they come out; I'm assuming that they will be "backward's compatible".

Since I got into video games (interactive entertainment) I find that I hardly ever watch TV any more. I believe the future is with interactive entertainment media, including movies, eventually. Imagine watching a movie at home where you can make decisions that will yield alternate plot lines and endings. As well, with more powerful gaming consoles, some of the possibilities are pretty interesting.

Eventually I see completely integrated computers and software consoles that will extend beyond just "games". Music and design software and "making your own CGI movie" are additional possibilities that are just around the corner.

It is estimated that by the year 2020 almost half of the employed workforce in N. America will be involved in some aspect of the music and video entertainment industry. Techno-Hedonism may become the new drug of the future.

Maybe they'll call it "Tek"??

The PS3 is backwards compatible with PS2 & PS1.

As for the 360, I think only certain games are.

Nintendo has at least one more console to release. It's called "The Revolution".

By the way, Mike, I think MGS is a good franchise. What do you think of the new one ? I haven't had a chance to get into it much, since I'm more of a Splinter Cell fan. Have you tried any of Sam Fisher's adventures yet ? I just started "Chaos Theory".

To be honest. MGS3 is the best video game I have ever played.

It's so complex, engaging and well thought out. Kojima is a video game genious.

The story isn't quite up to par with MGS1, and at first I didn't like the idea of another game where Solid Snake isn't the main character and the 60's setting, but after playing for about 10 minutes all my worries were gone. Big Boss is a great character, and all the supporting characters - especially the young, arrogant Ocelot are amazing.

As I said, Ocelot is cool, I love the way he is always one step ahead of everyone else, and his relationship with Snake in MGS3 is particularly good. H dislikes Snake, but by the end of the game he has formed a great respect fo him.

the twist at the end is also one of the best in any video game I have played, but snce you haven't gotten that far into it, I won't spoil it. It's well worth continuing to find out though.

MGS3 is also the only video game to make me   Sad eh?

MGS3 was confirmed a fortnight ago for PS3 - I can't wait...

As for Splinter Cell, I have only briefly playd "Pandora Tomorrow", I found it difficult, but in a good way. The only thing that bugs me about it really is just how Sam Fisher can sneak around, without being seen when he has three great big green lights stuck on his head!

Actually, I wondered about that too at first, but that's apparantly only for the player to see. Yes, part of the knock on the Splinter Cell series has been how difficult some of it can be. While I ate up the first one, "Pandora" was almost to the point of being "too tedious" after a while, and the popularity for it crashed. It got so hard in the middle that it wasn't even "fun" anymore, it was just hard work.

With "Chaos theory" they've given the player more choices about difficulty and firepower. Easier to play, but you still have to be careful (as with any good adventure game). I'll definitely take another run at MSG3, since I hear it has a fairly lengthy storyline. The trouble with Halo II and "Chaos Theory" is that they end abruptly just when it's getting good.

So, it wasn't just me that felt that way about Pandora then. Perhaps I'll have a crack at Chaos Theory.

MGS3 is fairly long. It took me about 16 hours on my first run through, if you explore and do things properly it can take up to 25 depending on the difficulty.

Also, it dosen't just end abruptly, just when you think it is going to end, something else crops up.

The climax is astonishing, and there is a great bit with Ocelot...

You had lost me. What's "MGS3?" How is it related to discussing the next generation of game console systems? :headscratch:

MGS3 is "Metal Gear Solid 3" and it is related to the next gen because MGS4 is being released on the PS3 meaning the entire series has been linked over three generations of console so far.

Thanks Mike.

Frankly I've never played MSG or its updated versions. I prefer strategy games. Unfortunately there aren't many to choose from at the moment.

NTL here are the lowdowns on the next generation game consoles. Critics had expressed their concerns that Microsoft is setting itself up for a downfall for being first to release the Xbox 360 later this year rather than wait for the unvealing next year in spring featuring Sony's PS3 and Nintendo's Gameboy Micro. Their reviews stated the Xbox 360 is just a specialized computer system while the PS3 will set the stage to bring the gaming experience to the next level. The cell CPU technology, developed by Sony and IBM is clocked at 3.2 GHz, and a 128 bit Nividia 3D video graphics card, giving the PS3 the fastest and most powerful game console system in the world. I tend to agree with their assessement.

Details of their reviews can be found in the E3 Expo 2005 event right here.

What do you think of their reviews?

Same here! But, most of the games at E3 re in a very early stage, may of them will be completly different from the final product.

Folks, I thought we were discussing Game Consoles, not games...

I think "games" would be a topic for another forum. If you'd like, I can move this one.

Nah, consoles and games come as one. You can't have one without the other.
