Ready or not, here they come, folks. The current video game systems are getting ready for a major overhaul, pushing the gaming experience to the next level. According to this report the Xbox 360, the next generation of the Xbox, will be release late this year with the PS3 is schedule for release in early 2006 with Sony's new cutting edge CPU chipset and superior graphics capabilities. Ninetendo is introducing the next generation of the GameBoy called GameBoy Micro. The company boasts it will have the capability that will put the PSP to shame. With these new gaming systems being introduce to the market, are they worth the price? Or are you willing to stay with your current game systems? What are your thoughts on these game systems? Are they worth it? |

The processors in the Sony PS3s are ground breaking and will likely beat the pants off the other two when and if they are utillized to the fullest. Sony does have a way of killing perfectly good technology though. |

How so? Sony had known to be the leader when it come to introducing new technology to the average consumer. To me I think Sony is turning its Playstation series into a computer system, overextending the Playstation's original objective - To play games. It would be nice to see the PS3 program to start the coffee maker but that is what a smart home computer system do, no?

There is currently a drive to be the entertainment system for the home. The new generation of gaming consoles will add internet capabilities, DVD and audio CD capabilities. This is why Microsoft took a loss and started X-Box, they don't want to be left behind in the race for the entire home entertainment system, that blurs the lines between PCs, Game Machines, TV, DVD Players, Stereos, etc. I have seen some presentation on the Sony cell processors and they seem to be revolutionary with massive parallelism giving distributed computing and incredible BW between cores. If taken to its full potential, it will dwarf in performance anything that we have going today. The CPU industry is re-embracing parallelism. |

To be honest, I think the next generation has come too early. Part of the reason for this is Microsoft trying to get ahead by launching the 360 this year. they don't want to be on the back foot again like they were with the current generation behond Sony. To me, Xbox has always been Bill Gates realising that the Pc as a gaming platform is dying out. Every other game is a FPS these days. I have nothing against the Xbox, but I think it is inferior to the PS2 (As an overall product) As for the next generation, even though Microsoft revealed everything first, I still think first blood went to Sony. A lot of the games from Microsoft at E3 this last month were either FMV, or what actual footage there was it was buggy and very slow. That is opposed to the PS3's previews that were very solid, and ran smoothly. Did anyone see Killzone 2? WOW!! As for Nintendo's Revolution Console, I think that is going to be another GameCube. For reasons unbeknownst to me, Nintendo is seen as a kiddy console maker. They have some of the most innovative games out there, but the marketing isn't great and people just don't hear about them. i can't ait to see what they have planned though, as details of the Revolution are sketchy at best. Nintendo has kept things watertight on that front. Now, for the GameBoy Micro. Sorry, but again (At the risk of sounding like a Sony Fanboy) I think the PSP has it again. It is the better package overall, and nintendo is milking the handheld market for all it is worth at the moment, what with the SP being released less than two years ago, and this year the DS. Too much of a good thing... The PS2 has sold over 90 million consoles worldwide in five years. That is only 10m short of what it's predecessor sold in 10. By comparison, the Xbox and Gamecube combined don't even add up to that. I can't see it changing for the next generation. All we have to do now is do something about EA Games... |

The Nintendo marketing guys have never quite figured out Western culture, but as I understand they really appeal to the Japanese well. Sony, a Japanese company, learned Western, particularly American, culture early on and has had a great deal of success with it. I am not a fanboy, like Welsby is, but for superior product, Sony has the lead as far as I can tell. But Sony could ruin a wet dream. |

We have PS2 at home and nothing else. I'm waiting for a more integrated entertainment format. As the audiophlies clooection of parts moved to slaved systems and now fully intergrated audio sysytems, the rest of the home entertainment platform will integrate. We already see this with the slight ingegration of internet browser, TV, and video games. I think if someone comes up with an kill open sourcecode app, we could see one platform many companies. Time for me to drive my fully tuned Civic R at Laguna Seca. ANOVA |

When I first heard the XBox 360 mentioned , I thought they were going for a Projection TV version, ie a 'real' 360 degree version, I was diappointed when I found out it was just a spin doctors concoction. When they bring out a model that does project in 3D for under $1000 then I'll be impressed. Better graphics are good, but i still find myself playing Warcraft II and the Syphon Filters (PS1) on occasions, about 8 years after I brought them |

For me I still enjoy playing some of my old PS1 games on my PS2 including one of my favorites - the Tomb Raider series. What I do like to see is a faster loading time for the games which are CD-ROM dependent such as Battlestar Galactica, Shattered Universe, Revenge of the Sith and Leisure Suit Larry.
Yes, I admit I like these games but the load time can be downright annoying at times. Maybe the PS3 will solve these problems by performing a direct disk transfer instead of loading them from the CD. It's hard to say for sure. NTL if the new systems are reasonably priced I may consider buying them. Otherwise I think I will stay with my current game systems.
