I just got Disc 1 today and I am looking foward to seeing this episode tonight. Based on only memory though, it still is my second favorite Pilot (Behind Caretaker) and one of ENT's best episodes.

It was so weird seeing Broken Bow after the series ended last night. Something I noticed watching Season 2 and 3 and the parts of 4, was that this crew never really changed all that much. After watching this episode, that couldn't be farther from the truth. The relationship between Trip and T'Pol (After they really hated each other), Bakula kind of improving, and Phlox not being like the alien guy from Galaxy Quest.

As for the episode itself, I would probably rank it third behind Caretaker and Emissary in terms of Series Premieres and I still think it was one of ENT's best shows. The acting kind of sucked (Like I said, Bakula really isn't that good) but the plot was actually pretty good and the dialoge (You scratched the paint) was decent. I don't know about anyone else, but I thought the Helix was kind of cool, and so was the grappler. ;)

Watching this episode, I noticed so many things that were missed opportunities as the series went on. For example, Phlox was brought on as part of a medical exchange to observe humans right? He really didn't do much more as the series went on for some reason. Also, I wished we would have seen more of Young Archer. The flashbacks really worked and really nailed the point of the direction the show should have gone into, which was yes there are obsticals, but you "can't be afraid of the wind." The whole Human/Vulcan conflict should have been the main theme of the series.

Now I don't want to sound like I'm bashing the series, because I am rewatching it with an unbiased opinion and I enjoyed this episode last night. I just watch the first season, and look at what this series could have been, and wonder how much better it would have become. After last nights first disc, I am starting to like the series again. Pity there won't be anymore season 4 episodes after this weekend. :(

I agree that more of the focus for conflict on this series should have been between the the humans and vulcans. Not really make the vulcans bad guys, but just the arrogant, "we know better than you" type.
