And I would accept them at lightspeed. However, these are physical items. Perhaps my question is too esoteric and we should just leave it at the idea that Jesus was establishing a ritual of remembrance for what he has done for us. I think that he was doing that. I just happen to think that he was also trying to focus the human mind onto the idea of his true nature and our need to ingest or take that into ourselves. |

Perhaps this is building on the dietary restrictions of Jews, especially where blood is concerned and also drawing a parallel to passover. Also, you are what you eat. This is a tangent from rapture, but I have never had a problem with this. I do not claim to fully understand it, but as Christians we are by definition saved by the suffering of the flesh of Christ and the shedding of the blood of Christ. Seems to fit well with the ritual spiritual sacrifice of communion. |

Psyfi, Correct. I tried to change your post, but I couldn't do it. So, I took a slight liberty with it.

The parallel to passover is undeniable and the idea of "being saved by the blood." Still, I think that there is an esoteric aspect to it also. We are all of us "spirit" which is to say that our mind is something non-physical, that leaves the body when the spirit does because it is part of the spirit. Jesus said, "I am the Truth, the Way, and the Life." This is the 'real flesh' and the 'real blood' of his entire being which the word "I" implies. Jesus was not just a body and neither are we. For Christians, this definition of his being is what we must take into ourselves, ingest, and digest. To my way of thinking, this fits in with the Christian notion of asking Jesus to come into our lives and be Lord and Savior, to live Big in us. |

Nice post. Every time I think about this, I feel like I come to some even deeper understanding, but yet still feel quite shallow on the hole matter. |

I get it psyfi. And yes, I leave the board as soon as I clock out for the day, so sorry I missed your question. Although Fes did answer it quite accurately.
I realize like much of the Bible, Christ was speaking in symbolic terms, even so, eating the flesh and drinking the blood of anything is for me, much less a person.

Oh, I don't think that Christ was speaking symbolically. Perhaps spiritually. |

For some reason, this entire discussion is reminding me of a day at Sacred Heart of Jesus High School. I was in the 9th grade and we were discussing Jesus' death on the cross. A girl sitting beside me said to our homeroom teacher, Sister Redempta, "I don't get it. Why couldn't Jesus just save us all from our sins. Why did he have to die on the cross? Why did he have to make a big show of it?" Sister Redempta's face turned very red and she picked up her ruler, the thick yard long one, and charged after her chasing her around the desks until she ran out of the room. Moral of the story: Don't be flip about Jesus and Salvation around nuns. They' ll hurt you. |

Good one! Actually I just saw the Secret Life of Alter Boys last night. Something I could somewhat relate to as a kid obsessed with comic books and his head swimming in the clouds while at school. I can't relate to the scary nuns, but Jodie Foster plays a frightening woman in black well. That reminds me of a role playing team I used to play, a couple of vampire hunters Father VanSandt and Sister Willow. I really miss those games. |
