Its time for the next issue. I just want to again point out that DCS does most of the work, I just post it cos I do the end formatting and its easier for me to edit if there are any problems. Enjoy.... When people started migrating over here I was initially hesitant to follow but I checked it out and it eventually sucked me in.

DCS: What is your favourite thing about sister trek?

Gvok: I'm really a TNG / DS9 fan. I think the writing hit its peak during those two shows, especially towards the end. As far as the movies go I think WOK was by far the best.

DCS: You are very involved in the political forums. Are you involved in politics in your 'real' life as well?

Gvok: I am not involved in politics in that I have never run for office. I have worked on campaigns and I clerked for a state trial court judge but that's as far as it goes. I do follow the news and I am intensely concerned about the path the US is being taken down by the Bush administration. As you can probably tell if you have seen my posts in the politics section I have two main concerns. First, I think Bush's decision to pre-emptively invade Iraq was a mistake. It was premised on false, even trumped up information as the Downing Street Memo has shown us. Iraq has developed into a dangerous situation where terrorists can thrive and train. It has enflamed the hearts of many young people in the Middle East making it easier for the terrorists to recruit new members. Second, I think Bush's tax policy is irresponsible. I'm not against tax cuts per se (as some people would like to paint me). I'm against running up huge deficits that must be serviced in interest payments today and have to be paid off by my children tomorrow.

DCS: What is your favourite Star Trek moment?

Gvok: I liked the series finales for TNG and DS9 the best.

DCS: Which Sister Trek member would you take on holiday with you?

Gvok: I don't think I'd take anyone on holiday with me. No offence intended. I just prefer to keep the influence of sistertrek in my life confined to the time I use the computer and to be honest, I spend too much time here anyway.

DCS: What are your three passions in life?

Gvok: (1) My family (wife, daughter, parents, sisters, and dogs), (2) being creative (writing stories and songs, playing guitar, and (3) Yoga (practicing and teaching).

DCS: Which is your most and least favourite smilie?

Gvok: The wink is my favourite. The wave is my least favourite.

DCS: Where would you like to see Star Trek go in the future?

Gvok: I'd always like to see a new series or movie. I think the latest series and most of the movies have been terrible, so maybe it's a good thing to take a break for now. I'd be happy if in a few years some new writers who are well versed in trek lore with passion for the story and not primarily interested in attracting a particular demographic got together to write a new series set after TNG and DS9.

DCS: Is the glass half empty or half full?

Gvok: For me, the glass is always half full.

2. Rob and Amber got married. Tom, the New York City fire-fighter won the one million dollar prize on Survivor. Carrie Underwood ousted Bo Bice on American Idol and nothing really was resolved on LOST. Claire’s baby is saved and Walt is abducted by a bunch of sea pirates. All this so very trivial to our own personal loss…… ENTERPRISE. The last episode aired on a Friday the 13th of all days. We all tuned in to watch Enterprise on its final voyage and watch another saga prematurely bite the dust. It was all too sad.

But lucky for all of us, there is my personal favourite, the “Happy Thread”. A place where we can read about happy things that happen amongst the members of Sistertrek. Tkeisha has her holiday plans all set for August and is happy with the results of her year-end review. 38 got 5th place in a no limit Texas hold’em poker tournament. DCS got a job and last but not least 8247 got a job interview. Let’s all wish him the best of luck. So yes, despite Enterprise going down the tubes, there’s a lot of good stuff going on right here in Sistertrek.

Have you been keeping up with your fan fiction? “War Time: Star Trek Exploration” has started a second story and uses a rolling story format. Geez, I think someone spiked the synthehol… The politics forums are always a tough place to hang out here, this past month particularly so. Personally, I enjoy debating with those who do not share my point of view. I find it to be an opportunity to learn more. It’s one thing for me to hold an opinion on something, but if I am going to make a statement about it, or try to sway others to my perspective, I’d better have some good reasons for holding that opinion. Debating in these forums makes me think about what my point is and why I hold certain opinions. The thing I try hard to remember is that there are many people here that do not think as I do and I am obligated to respect their right to hold an opinion I disagree with…

Hot Button Issues of May… Or, “You started it! Did not! Did too! Did not! Did too! Did not! Plenty of the regulars were more than happy to chime in and let him know their thoughts. This reporter hasn’t seen it yet, but has heard from reliable sources that it is in fact better then the last two moves by Lucas to hold the name Star Wars. But quit frankly that doesn’t necessarily denote a big accomplishment, lets face it “Super Size Me” and “Star Trek Nemesis” where better then Lucas’s last two box office bombs, so “Revenge of the Sith” didn’t have a long way to go to be called better. In fact simply killing off Jar Jar “Rastafarian” Binks was all that would be needed to adorn the tiled of Forth best Star Wars movie of all time.

But enough about what I think of a movie I haven’t even seen yet. I now bring you the prospective of an extremely mediocre man. I think it was well done, but I am not quite sure that I think it is the, as one critic put it, "best since the 'Empire Strikes Back.'" It almost had a feel that it was tying up the loose ends of the previous two movies. Maybe this was due to the fact that we knew what the end result had to be, or maybe it just is not resonating as much with me as I would have liked...

McDiarmid's performance was great and I still think that the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi was well cast and is really an underrated performance. Portman seemed to just drop into the background even more than in the last one.

There were some good continuity moments. One in particular that dealt with what could have been a truly glaring flaw, handled with one simple sentence from Sen. Organa of Alderaan. I won't post it here in case anyone not wanting to see a spoiler should wander in...

Also making the rounds in the “Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Adventure” forum is a little test called “Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?”. While looking over the “Did you ever?” game I have discovered that Sister Treks new <STRIKE>Janitor</STRIKE> Bride Officer 24thcenstfan, (I think everyone at the magazine joins me in saying congratulations and good luck on the promotion) has once mistakenly eaten something while thinking it was something else. What this reported would like to know is what was it that she ate and what did she think it was before she ate it? Well 24, I think we all disserve the answer; Sister Trek monthly is ready when you finally decided to do the honourable thing and spill the beans.

Another great game that helps Sister Trek members get to know one another is called “What two things do you know, about the member above?” and a resent observation of the thread reviles that Mike Welsby like to party like its 1999 (Play that funky music white boy… Play that funky music right) and he needs a haircut. Also it should be mentioned that Mike Welsby has a rather disgusting fetish that involves tea-cosines and getting naked on days that begin with a W. In a recent press conference he has stated that he will be checking into a rehabilitation clinic for this problem and wanted to say he was sorry to any one he may have hurt because of this problem. He revealed to Sister Trek monthly that he just couldn’t take the ridicule and humiliation of walking down the street with nothing but a tea-cosy on his head and he need help to get past his problem. Doctors at the clink expect Mike to make a full recovery, but feel it may take a long time for him to cope with the electroshock therapy. If you are reading this Mike, good luck and try not to bite your tongue.

Star Trek Trivia

It was another great month in the “Star Trek Trivia” forum and a great time was had by all. OK so technically Mel isn’t a newbie, but she is so friendly we thought she would be perfect to kick this feature off.

Mel:
I was recently asked by Captain Proton Au to contribute to Sister Trek Monthly! I thought: “Wow, little old me? I’d be honoured!” So, I graciously accepted!

So, let me tell you a bit about myself! I live in New Brunswick, Canada. I am 25 years old, and I have an 8-year-old daughter. Mel is short for Melanie! So yes, I am a woman, contrary to what some of you may think. I have my own board as well! It’s a place where you can post anything. We have a general discussions forum, and that is where pretty much all of the action takes place. If you’re up for a good laugh, then you can browse the jokes and funny stuff forum. If you want to check it out, go to Melanie's Forum. I also have a link in my signature line. We just celebrated our 6-month anniversary. There are already a few of you who have registered, but have disappeared like the newbies that went missing from Sister Trek.

I came across Sister Trek by chance one day, when I was browsing through the InvisionFree board directory. I was actually looking for a new board that had a variety of topics, and then I saw Sister Trek listed in there. I was dumbfounded! A trek board? Woo! I registered right away and I stayed for a while, posting here and there. Then, I went missing like some other newbies. Why? Well, for one thing, I belong to way too many boards. I decided to cut down on them and choose 3 boards that I would be a regular on. Sister Trek was one of them! So, I am back, and I am here to stay!

What attracted me back to Sister Trek was the friendliness of its members! The fact that you can ask someone a question or leave a comment and get a response almost right away really appeals to me! I’ve had some pretty interesting and, umm, thought provoking conversations with Mike Welsby and Fesarius! That’s why you’ll see me in the Kick Back forum more often than any other area of the board! Of course, the Voyager forum deserves special mention as well!

As some of you may have observed, Star Trek: Voyager is my all-time favourite Trek series! Why, you ask? Simply put, Voyager kicks a$$! Umm, can I say a$$? Seriously though, Voyager was the Trek series that actually made me a Trek fan. I love the fact that Voyager’s captain was a woman, and that she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. Are you reading this, TNG fans? My favourite character is B’Elanna Torres! She and I have a lot in common! Let’s just say, she brings out the Klingon in me! The Doctor comes in at a close second! And why wouldn’t he? I mean, it’s incredible that a holographic projection integrated into a computer program could actually develop its own personality and continue to grow and learn! Amazing!

Well, I guess that’s all for now. Let me just finish by saying that I’m really happy to have found this community! And I hope to be here for a long time.

6. Governor Wichita has been kidnapped!”

24 sprang out of the bath and wrapped a towel on. “Do we know who kidnapped her?”

“Yes” said DS9074. “There was a ransom note from a group calling themselves ‘Sister Trek citizens against censorship’. They say they won’t release Governor Wichita until she agrees to end the ban on the words #### and #####.”

“Dammit! Governor Wichita only introduced that ban as a temporary measure! She was going to call it off tomorrow! Still, that doesn’t mean we can accept what they have done, we shouldn’t negotiate with these people. We will have to go and get Governor Wichita back by force. Do you have any clue as to where they might have taken her?”

DS9074 fiddled with his console and brought up the details. “Officer Dandandat was on duty when the kidnapping occurred, he is following the group. Apparently they are currently under siege at the old castle on the edge of the city.”

“I want a team there STAT! Stay in touch at all times.” 24 switched off the view screen. The three hostage takers had been in the castle for over an hour now, and they he had been unable to open a dialogue with them in the hope of negotiating Governor Wichita’s release. Deputy 24th century fan had given the order to storm the building, for all they knew Wichita was hurt and they were playing for time, trying to cover their backs.

Everyone had been in a state of shock since they found out about the kidnapping. Things had been a tense on the planet lately and the situation had been escalating day by day, but nobody had anticipated this. Sister Trek citizen against Sister Trek citizen, it seemed like a terrible nightmare. Had the dream of Sister Trek been marred forever?

“Three, two, one, mark!” The team leapt into action. Swidden and Intrepid ran for the doors first, dodging the fire of the hostage takers. They smashed the doors down and ran inside, with Dan and Fireh8er hot on their heels.

The team charged inside. They found themselves in a main hall of the disused castle. In the centre of the castle, tied up to an old pillar was Governor Wichita. Surrounding her were three figures dressed in cloaks with long black hoods, which covered up all their features. The team charged towards them but suddenly, buzz, they ran into a force field.

“Dam it,” exclaimed Officer Dandandat. He motioned for the team to rise to their feet. “Look,” he said to the three figures, “you can’t stay holed up in their forever. Release Governor Wichita and then maybe we can talk about coming to some kind of arrangement.

“Never!” said one of the figures. “We will never release Wichita until we have a promise that she will reverse the ban on certain words. If we do not receive such a promise in the next hour we will kill her.”

Officer Dandandat heard the sound of a transporter beam behind him as Sergeant 24 materialised behind him. “That ban was only temporary. It will no longer be in place in a few hours. Therefore there can be no problem for you. Release Governor Wichita this instant and we may be persuaded to be lenient. If you do not do so, or you harm the Governor in any way we will be forced to kill you.”

The lead figure laughed. “You couldn’t do that even if you wanted to. We have this place completely encapsulated with a force 12 force field. You’re phasers cannot shoot through that.”

“No they cannot,” responded 24. “But the phasers cannons from the planets defense grid that I have had pointed at this very location can. Release Governor Wichita and reveal your identities and you can escape this fate.”

The figures huddled together in deep discussion. While they talked 24 paced along the perimeter of the force field and Officer Dandandat and his team kept their phasers aimed squarely at the trio. They seemed to be arguing, one was tugging on the sleeve of another and the third figure was raising its hands in exasperation. Finally one of the figures turned round to face the assembled police force of Sister Trek.

“That isn’t good enough. We wish to be free of the oppressive regime of Governor Wichita. She must die.”

“Wait!” screamed 24, “Are you insane! That won’t achieve anything, it makes no sense! Reveal your identities to us and we will help you.”

Officer Dan had been examining a medical scanner he had borrowed from one of the team. “Sergeant 24, I have been examine the life signs of the kidnappers. They are not Sister Trek members at all! Their life signs show that they are really trollers and flamers! They are impostors!”

“I am sorry that it has come to this.” Said the lead figure, “We had hoped that we would be able to get what we wanted through other means but it seems that there is no alternative route available to us. We are not Sister Trek members. We are in fact agents from ST.com come to seek revenge for what you did to our noble leader in the last issue. We had hoped to cause civil unrest by posing as Sister Trek members and killing your Governor. However since our plot has failed we must destroy you and ourselves so that the others of your world will never find out the truth. We came here to get you to destroy each other and we cannot fail. Slabitrhdud, set the bomb off!”

One of the figures pulled out a small square object with a red button on it. He pressed it and a countdown began.

“What are we going to do?” said Tribblemom.

Suddenly there was an almighty crash. A hole had been blasted into the wall behind the force field. To everyone’s shock Richard Dean Anderson strolled through wearing nothing but combat trousers with a utility belt stocked with paper clips and string, and a tight string vest that was holed and frayed in some places. His skin was glistening with baby oil as his muscles rippled.

“I heard it on the grapevine that you were trying to cause harm to my beloved Wichita!” He growled. “I cannot allow that, and you must pay for your crimes.”

He pulled out a phase pistol and shot the three kidnappers before they had time to react.

Richard Dean Anderson tore the rope that bound Wichita’s hands and pulled her into his arms. “Wichita, my beloved, are you unharmed? My darling, my angel will you come with me back to the planet of Star Gate and spend the rest of your life with me?”

“Richard, you know I love you, but my future lies on Sister Trek.” Wichita replied.

He pulled her closer for a moment and then released her and looked into her face with adoration. “Of course, I should have known you were too noble to ignore your responsibilities to your people. DCS should know. I PM’d her with it. Anyway, enough of that, let’s get down to what you are really here for!

In the TOS forum this month, that old dog Shatner has made a comeback with his commercials thread. It seems most of you can’t get enough of the portly captain’s ads for Price line, and Kellogg. How strange. Dr. Noah, decided he liked ST: V! Oddly enough, so did a lot of other members, including yours truly. I feel dirty. But that is because I haven’t had a shower today.

Over to TNG where nothing much has happened again. The only real topics this month came from Digifan, who would like to know who is going to be buying the ST:IX (That’s “nine”, for all you non Romans.) The thread went off on a slight tangent, so I apologise for that, but it seems to have found it’s way again. Also, Today (30th) is Colm Meaney’s birthday. He clock half a century, join him in a drink. Make sure it is Scotch.

DS9. ImpulseEngine has been asking about the Emissary, and whether or not the producers of the show had an idea of where they wanted it to go at the beginning, or if, like I’m doing with this, they made it up as they went along. There is also a Changeling question that also seems to screw with continuity in a way. Go look, before they disappear!

Over to the Delta Quadrant next on my whistle-stop tour of Star Trek, If you look to your left, you will see the Ocampan homeworld. Sorry, no you won’t. I’m lying.
Did Seven of Nine dominate the show after her introduction at the start of season four? That is the question “who” wants the answers for. Digifan, has started a topic about the best quotes from Voyager. Take a look; can you come up with a good one that we never hear? Oh, I almost forgot! Mel saw a new episode the other day. She seemed quite chuffed, and now there is a topic about it! Tuvok’s singing is apparently very good.

Next! Enterprise. As with TNG, nothing is really happening here either. Just the usual “Oh no! It’s been cancelled! Whatever shall we do!” kinda talk. Which is understandable. CPA has posted a couple of topics though. What is the funniest line in Enterprise, and also, what are the five worst episodes of the series.

Finally, in General Trek I asked which is better, a phaser, or a lightsaber. Go vote, make your voice heard! What is the most ridiculous thing you have ever seen in Trek? Go to the thread with that title, and add your voice to the downright silly and unbelievable things that occasionally make even the biggest Trek fan fall off their sofa laughing. Actually, this forum has been incredibly busy this month, I can’t fit it all in the space my Editor has given me, so I’ll give you a link to follow instead General Trek

That’s it, I’ll be around for autographs and personal appearances over the next month. Good job everyone! I enjoyed the story DCS. And thank you all again for the congrats on becoming the new "Bride Officer."
I am going to have to find a way to work that one in on my member title sometime. Also, the item that I mistakenly ate was deer meat. Several years ago, my brother thought it would be cute to substitute hamburger meat with deer in a dish that he was cooking. Needless to say, I wasn't a happy camper when I discovered this. I don't eat deer meat. |
