iRobot and Frontline Robotics are teaching robots how to work together.

The goal of iRobot's swarm project is to coordinate the actions of groups of hundreds of individual robots. A Swarm Operating System (SwarmOS) is under development to control as many as 10,000 robots or SwarmBots.

Well, I for one certainly can. ;)

Talk about a great way to do the housecleaning.

I suppose these principles might be applicable to nanotechnology, as well.

Interesting stuff.

Swarm (G & I Robotics) , did some of this kind of stuff a couple of years ago - Sumobots are great fun.

The industrial ramifications are enormous , SwarmOS controlled robots running plants by themselves without human intervention to build things - cars, aircraft, run dangerous (human unfriendly) plants and even other robots.
When they become capable of learning and autoevolution , we will be in trouble.
