Noah, My belief is that we will find 'millions' of years to be inaccurate one day. But, I cannot prove it, obviously. |

I have seen where they have attempted to carbon date an artifact that was dated, so they knew how old it actually was. The carbon dating process gave a range of dates and the actual date was a few decades out of the range. And this is only in the last 2000 years, so I wonder how much more multiplied the inaccuracies are for older stuff. Also, there are other methods for determining the age of human fossils based on DNA that do not agree with carbon dating. In the end, it is all just estimation and educated guesses. |

I think this is hard one to answer. I think we all need to know the end result of epistemology before we get stuck here. But I will still try and go out on a liimb.... I think both involve faith and knowledge. I mean why would you believe in something (religion) without proof? We all have our versions of proof, though. Here is my guess.... Science is from knowledge of the tangible (including energy), physical multiverse....whereas Religion is from spiritual/soulful knowledge (which also has energy of a different "matter" :Fes:). |

I used to be an atheist who believed that only hard science was real. Over the years this has gradually changed so that my beliefs now are not mainsteam at all. This change has come about because of several reasons I can think of: - every scientific theory about the nature of the world has flaws in it - hard science excludes all of my experience including awareness, thought, and emotion - hard science provides a very bleak view of the world - multiple spiritual experiences where I have had glimpses of God and Heaven that were more real than my usual experiences of the world I think science, as it is normally thought of, is a study of the "external" world. Spirituality comes from within. |

Defiant and Who, Very nice responses. And to my way of thinking, they are not all that dissimilar. They do seem to be well-reasoned out. |
