Apparently we look like this now
|
First of all, the FBI had allegations from detainees...or let me say what they really are...TERRORISTS that the Koran was being flushed. There is still no proof. These terrorists can and will say anything they can to aid their cause. Since some Americans are so hard strung about giving aid and comfort to them, they know that we will turn against our own people. Heaven forbid we flush a Koran... Newsweek retracts the story, and the rest of the media scurries around for ANYTHING that may make it true. The FBI's documents mention allegations BY DETAINEES, so they run a story: FBI Has Evidence of Koran Abuse. Then, most people only read the headline, and say "OH MY GOD!!! NEWSWEEK WAS RIGHT!" More riots, more Americans die, and the media wins. As for another respecting another religion's holy book, #1, the prisoners at Gitmo are given Korans, and prayer rugs. When the muslim terrorists start giving American prisoners bibles instead of beheading them, maybe I'll respect their book a little more. |

Actually, few of these people have been charged with any crimes, including terrorism. They are suspects. |

It was invented by Stalin and regarded people who were easily swayed into supporting Communism, like members of the Hollywood community or members of the Roosevelt and Truman administrations. Another phrase you'll see used: Potemkin Village |

Why don't you care ? Would you care if someone got hold of the original American Constitution and flushed it ? (clarified : a grown adult who is intent on attacking the basis of american culture for malicious political reasons). |

That would depend. Often, my three-year old gets a hold of things and flushes them down our toilet. And, she's quite smart. |

Somerled - That's not a comparison. You are comparing a one of a kind (ok, I think there were a few - but less than 10) to a reprint in the millions and millions. |

You have been told that they are all terrorists, in actual fact very few of them have been proven to be terrorists , or faced the USA kangaroo courts : oops : military tribunals. They are , at worst , suspects until someone has proven otherwise. "Innocent 'til proven guilty" is one the precepts of your legal system , or doesn't this apply in the goulag being run by the USA at Guantánamo Bay in direct contradiction of US law and international conventions on the treatment of prisoners of war. |

Fundamentalists (any religion you care to point at) would be just as outraged at having something that is key to their beliefs or holy to them treated with such malicious contempt. Look at how people responded to having the 10 commandments removed from a foyer in a court house not so long ago. |

^^^ Somerled, I know I would not want Bibles torn up and thrown into a fire. Question: Would you want the newest and best science (pick any of your favorite disciplines) books torn up and thrown into a fire? I'm curious if this would bother you. It would me. |

I would find that very distasteful and disturbing. I am very fond of books (science or literature). |
