This isn't a new thing.
When I was in college in Arkansas, there was a huge uproar on campus when a professor arbitrarily gave a failing grade to a student to whom he was diametrically opposed, politically.
Fortunately, the professor was fired, but it wasn't the last time that kind of thing would happen in Arkansas, or anywhere else for that matter.
At the U of A, the school president wasn't the kind of person who would accept that kind of thing, but a lot of presidents aren't that objective.
It's too bad, too. We're not teaching are students to think critically, we're allowing people with personal agendas to teach our children to spout propaganda by rote.

I'm going on to ISU (Iowa State University) next year. Since I am a faily outspoken conservative, I'm afraid that professors will dock my grade. Espicially since I'm majoring in History and possibly minoring in Poli sci. I want to teach college level history, and I'm afriad of not being able to get a job, let alone tenure, because I'm a conservative.

I had a really liberal professor for two classes at Iowa Central. One for American Civilation from 1877 and the other for fundemtals of American Government. For the American Civ class, we talked mostly about the culture of differnt periods of American history, and ethnic minorities. For the American Government class, we just touched on the three branches and the basics of the Government. We talked a lot about civil liberties and civil rights. He would always inject his opinion into the lecture, but would ask for our opinions. I was the only one that regularly challenged him.

History is generally politics-free until you get to the history of the United States. I've never heard of anyone getting into a political argument over the policies of the Huns or the Macedonians.

I don't think that is true. There was a great deal of religious politics between the Latin and Greek Christians in early medieval Europe. There was a great deal of religious politics within the Greek Christian community as well, for example.

I should have said the STUDY of history is generally politics free until you get into American history.
Which isn't to say that you can't get into heated discussions on medieval religous zealotry, it's just that the proceedings of the Council of Nycea seem of less pressing concern to the average college student than would current judicial nominees.

The British might disagree with you on that. But...

As to the study of medieval and ancient history, it is too bad that college students don't see the pressing concern of it (those who fail to learn the lessons of history are bound to repeat it).
