I'm trying to get more details on this deal but so far it sounds like a major sham. The Senate is going to allow votes on three of the nominees and that is that. The Dems said that they will only use the filibuster for extraordinary conditions which since they think all of those they don't want are extraordinary right-wingers, seems to mean that they will keep on doing as they have done. What kind of compromise is that?

It sounds like a political power grab by McCain and others. McCain is positioning himself as a centrist candidate for the next election.

It is just my opinion but I think the president's appointments should all get an up or down vote. I do not think the minority should be able to control by filibuster. I do support the filibuster for passing laws.

When it comes to religious rights, I have some serious concerns about McCain, most especially because of his defense of and friendship with Warren Rudman who made some unbelievably disparaging remarks about Christian conservatives.

What happens to those who sit in the middle of the road? They get run over.

Pity McCain can't see it.

I do not think that those in the middle of the road get run over. We elect the president and the senators. I think the president should be able to have his own appointments with a simple 50% majority of the senate.

In terms of passing laws I think the bar should be higher and perhaps the current 60% is as it should be. There is really no need for a filibuster with the new rules on it. I think it should be removed and replaced by rules for a simple majority for appointments and a 60% majority for laws.
