Minuet, I understand that, and I echo your sentiments. I never thought you were doing anything else but answering the question.
With this I agree 100%.

My personal opinion is that Jesus was a man and he is the son of God. psyfi, I liked your comment about Jesus being our elder brother. I tend to see him in this role as well. As someone who looks out for us and provides counsel. |

Exactly! I think that the idea of an elder brother also conveys the sense that we are of the same family which appeals to me. When I went to Catholic school there was a tendency to make Jesus so special that he seemed alien to regular humanity, but a brother is blood of our blood. He is our own and we are his. I like that thought. |

Just a man with the gift of the gab, and who was not special other than that and the philosophy he spread. If he was alive today he would be doing things like Billy Graham and those types of snake oil merchants. PS : that's 3 votes for "just a man" , but only 2 are shown .... I'm certainly I voted correctly - another INVISION glitch ? |

He is alive today. He'd come visit you, walk right through the door if only for but a moment you suspended doubt. |

Only two people on this thread have indicated that they think Jesus was just a man (you and Min). There is no Invision glitch. |

I disagree. However, disagreeing with others, and being allowed to do so in an environment of civility, is a positive aspect of this Board. It also demonstrates a modicum of maturity.

I would say that Jesus was just a man except that I think that he was more than that, he was an exceptional man who like Mohatma Ghandi, Sister Teresa and John Lennon used non-violence and their amazing compassion and charisma to reach out to millions of people and encourage peace and understanding as well as pacifism and tolerance. I think that these people are more than just people, but have some special connection to the divine, enlightened I suppose one would say in the Buddhist point of view, that they are able not only embrace the edicts of non-violence so completely but able to encourage millions of others to do so as well. I voted "Other". |

Other: A Man but also a Paranoid Schizophrenic with delusions of Grandeur, just like the garden variety cases that think they are Napolean, but he thought he was the Son of God. Many of the less fortunate people of the time followed him cos they liked hearing things like rich men cant get into heaven and the like. Some of his disciples might have picked up on the fact that he wasnt all there, but it didnt matter to them, they liked the notoriety of being famous in a way, or like the ideals he was talking of. Sorry if this offends some people, but IMO it fits in with the story of what happened, I believe Jesus did really think he was the Son of God, or at least convinced himself over time. Theres no real reason why God would send him to earth, the very cryptic "Jesus died for our sins" is too vague to nail down reason |
