616 just doesn't have quite the same ring that 666 does.

Actually, I've known about this for quite some time. Religious and language historian Robert Graves discusses this phenomenon in his book, "The White Goddess". As well, he makes a case for the fact that the numerical values of 666 and 616 actually represent "Nero Ceasar", the true focus in Revelations of the so-called "anti-christ"; a reaction to the christian persecutions in Rome.

Hell's bells - when will they ever get it right ?

You mean I need to change that tattoo on my right buttuck to 616 now ?

616 is no where near as geometrically satisfying as 3 6s are . 616 will look odd. ;)

Neat! That number (616) was our area code for many years.

So what you're saying is, you've lived in Hell?

Methinks that the early translators should have checked the qualifications on the resume of their proof reader... :D

Somerled,

I don't know. But they probably understood a2 + b2 = c2 quite well. ;)

This is hard to deal with. Its like thinking a tomatoe is a vegtable all your life and then being told that it is now a fruit. Part of me wants to keep on thinking its a vegtable even if it's not technically correct.

When I was young people said Canadian Geese. Now they say Canada Geese for some reason. I hate that too.
