I am a third degree member of KFC. Does that count. I really don't think that the Masons do much these days. They get together, have meetings, socialize and when they are not doing that they are helping the comunity. So can a christian be a Mason, I don't see why not. I don't think those rituals they do mean anything anymore, to them or anyone else. |

To clear up the conspiracies regarding the Masons: It's true, they do have meetings and contribute to the community. They have secret rituals, but they are in no way sinister. It's like a Moose Lodge for white collars more than anything else. |

You don't have any open issues. It may be up to the individual parish pastor to a small extent to determine this but you should be baptized, of course, in a manner acceptable to the Catholic Church (I was baptized by a Methodist Church and that is acceptable to the Catholic Church). You should be confirmed. Perhaps, there are marriage issues concerned as the Catholic Church does not recognize divorces. You obviously can't be excommunicated. You have to be a member of the parish, which means you just sign up. And you have to sign over your first male child to the Knights. Just kidding on the last one. It is really up to the member to get the most out of it, they don't investigate you with background checks. |

Careful - your pants might fall down. Then you will never make your dream of being a Canadian cheerleader. |

I believe the term that is used is "practical Catholic". Essentially, as long as you have done nothing that warrants being thrown out of the Church, you are pretty safe. The rules used to be a lot stricter for membership (i.e. if you divorce and remarry). Addendum:

You have to buy extra stuff for that, and I am not quite up to it. I know a man who is considering doing it and he is telling me what he has to pay for. I mainly joined as a way to volunteer to help the church and other charitable causes as I don't have a lot of money to throw around. It's also nice to hang out with other guys. We can raise a lot more funds by me volunteering to do things than we could off of my donations. We also volunteer to do maintenance and stuff around the church and local Catholic elementary school. We do a lot of BBQs and breakfast tacos and the food is good.

Our council does a lot of that sort of thing too. A few decades ago, financed through bingo games, we managed to purchase a hall to operate out of and run dinners. We've had some fairly gourmet events and plenty of simple & basic fare... |

Hmmm... I don't know what the bingo laws are in the state of Texas. I think that it is different from place to place. We mainly raise money through food: fish fries during lent, BBQ, breakfast tacos, some catering. We just had a church spring carnival and we ran a hamburger, hotdog and nacho booth. I worked most of Sunday in it and it was a lot of work. We don't have a hall. |

38957, Really? I had no idea that that was allowed. I thought all along that you were a true (real) Catholic. Oh well, you can always get baptized correctly later. [The question is, would you have known I was kidding around had I not added this last part? ;)] |

I don't know how your state council works, but with ours we are not actually affiliated with a single parish (partly due to the fact that our council has been around for about a century, only three digits in our council number). I do know that Supreme Council back in Connecticut would like to see a council in every parish eventually. |

The church can keep you hopping with that maintenance work. My grandfather was a KofC. He was also a carpenter and once he retired, the nuns had him working from dawn to dusk on the convent, the church, the rectory. There was no end to it! It seems I grew up always hearing one of my uncles or aunts, saying to him, "Jesus, Dad! Are you never not at the convent. What the heck is going on?" |
