Can women become Masons? I am in the mood to infiltrate an organization for educational purposes.

Hmmm. My grandmother could not (back in the 1960s). She was, however, a member of the Eastern Star. Both organizations do a lot with regard to burn centers, and for that, I applaud them. :)

The Knights of Columbus seem lame in comparison to the Masons though.

Where did that come from?

I think it is another similar organization (in Gvok's eyes, at least).

Yeah. We don't quite have the same notoriety when it comes to conspiracy theories...

Are you a KOC? Can you tell me about it? How does one become a member?

The Knights of Columbus are a fraternal charitable organization of Catholic men. They were founded in Connecticut in the late 19th century by Irish Catholics who were being discriminated against for employment and insurance.

To become a member you have to be Catholic and want to join.

It is not really apples and apples with the Masons as I understand it.

Yes. I am a member of the KOC. Becoming a member these days is pretty easy: You must be a Catholic male in good standing with the Church (but even that last part depends on how strict individual councils are).

What does "good standing with the church" entail?
