Digifan, Great! Bring it on. I'd love to know what is on that bonus disc, and whether or not it is worth getting. Thanks. |

Thanks, Fes. Anyone else got this box set yet? Here is the review of my box set. The strong points: - Interesting keepsake case. It's in the form of the NX main engine generator. - Since my DVD player has an option of displaying widescreen format movies in full screen format, my viewing was in full screen. Quite a change from the broadcast version. - The deleted screens were interesting. - All twenty two episodes of the first season is included in this box set. - Picture quality were outstanding. I expect nothing less from Paramount. The weak points: - I still don't get it. How fast could the NX go? They can reach Kronos in four days? - It seems "Future Guy" was there from the start. Were B&B intended to have him in a season wide arc? - The bonus disk is disappointing. It's filled with infomercials for Star Trek conventions especially in Las Vegas. That's all I have on it so far. Stay tune for updates. What are your impressions of the box sets? |

^^^ Digifan, Many thanks. I can't comment, as I don't have it yet.
Very interesting. I prefer widescreen every time. UPN has been showing both on Saturday nights (the Friday showings having been cancelled three weeks in a row due to baseball). The 8 p.m. showing is full screen, and the 10 p.m. showing is widescreen. I prefer the latter, since you get so much more bang for your dollar.

I think they FINALLY got the packaging right which is nice, but it would've been nicer if the DS9 packaging didn't fall apart on you after regular use. The interviews seem interesting, although I could care less what B&B have to say, it's nice to hear commentary from the cast and of course our favorites Michael Westmore, Michael and Denise Okuda. I haven't watched a whole lot of interviews yet. There seems to be tons of extra features I haven't yet seen in Trek DVDs such as cut scenes and audio commentary, too bad it's B&B.

Noah, Wow. What happened to your DS9 boxes? We have had them for a while, and they are fine. |

They split apart at the seams simply from opening and closing them over and over. I watched them a lot, and I probably wore them out faster than normal, but a product should last longer than that. Don't worry, all the disks are safe in a CD holder. |

^^^ Noah, I see. I will be very careful with ours. Thus far, no problem. They weren't issued in more than one package, were they? Ours are in a very hard, sturdy plastic, with 'pages' that turn to expose each disc. Is that what yours are in as well? |

I must admit that I got this yesterday....I started watching it from where I left off in 2001 (though I watched Broken Bow again). And I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. I'll admit that I plan on getting the others as they come out..Then all that I will have left are the last 4 seasons of VOY. I thought Cold Front was supposed to one of the greats...I found it boring. I liked the humor in Breaking the Ice. As for the box....I felt like Maxwell Smart trying to get into the various levels.
I only noticed one (2min?) infomercial for the Borg experince in Las Vegas....where were the others? The bonus disc wasn't that great as the DS9/TNG ones. They did show the real insides of the warp core.....everything else was really nothing. Spoiler: click to toggle

Here's something I don't like about the extras. There's a thing about Scott Bakula, all the writers and cast talking about what a nice guy he is, which is a nice thing to do I guess, but what the hell is the point of that? Obviously everybody is going to say he's a nice guy. Nobody's going on the record saying what an a#@$hole they think he is. And even if they did, it obviously wouln't be recorded on the DVD. Now I am sure he is a nice guy, but I was under the impression they were going to talk about his CHARACTER like the crew profiles on the DS9 DVDs. But I guess I'm holding it up to too high a standard.

Defiant, I loved that episode. To each his or her own, of course. Did you happen to listen to the music from start to finish? It has one of the best scores of any episode of ENT. That last scene, when they are locking the Quarters is fascinating, esp. when listening intently to the dissonances which are accompanying the visuals. I love the slow zoom-in to the door--very 2001-ish (similar in color to the scene where Bowman is looking at himself aging during the last ten or so minutes). |

* Curse browser * Damned bugs still causing it to crash. Thanks, Defiant. I owe you a Coke. I am sorry about your box set, Noah. It sounds like you got a bad batch. I'm going to review the rest of the box set over the weekend. Stay tune for reviews and comments. Same thread, different poster. |

I'd prefer a Raktigino. I only have 6 more episodes to go. I think I am bumping ENT up to the same level as Voyager.....unless it gets crappy in the next 2 seasons (from various sources on the board). I never noticed it before, but it does it seem like ENT's prologues are very short? FES I didn't consciously notice the music...I guess I only consciously notice music is when it I like it or hate it subconsciously. And maybe the photagraphy was great....but the story (Cold Front) seemed a little lame. I guess anything that mentions time travel is supposed to be good. I know this is supposed to be a prequel and they are unfamiliar with certain technology......but the last time I saw a transporter used on a person was in Broken Bow.......am I ever gonna see it used again? Not that I'm a transporter fan.....but there were times when the transporter would have been usefull (of course, not for storytelling). EDIT: Maybe I'm off topic with some of the things that I've written.....but I like the humor in many episodes.........(what are you going to do if she gets sick...make a holographic doctor?). |

Yes, way too short. Sometimes I can see that it might be necessary, but on ENT, there are a substantial number that seem to last under twenty seconds.
Without spoiling it too much, yes.
