This is the broadband telephone company, that lets you call anywhere in the country for only $24.99 a month. Do any of you know about it use it?

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
I have heard of it. I have heard people say good things about it. I kind of wonder if this company will survive in the ever changing world of internet and telephone. Will one of the SBCs or AOL-Time Warners destroy them. The Computer, telephone, TV, cable, video games and other forms of entertainment will undergo some big changes over the next few years as they work more closely together and I kind of just want to wait and see before I purchase stuff.

Anyway, I don't think that I would be able to make enough calls to get my money's worth.

I'm thinking about doing it. Its local calls too, and $24.95 a month is much less than the phone company.

Do you have to 'bring your own' broadband? Or is that included?

I use it.

I like it although the technology is imperfect.

Pros:
• Pretty good sound quality
• Dirt cheap
• Unlimited long distance calls within the United States

Cons:
• Internet usage during phone call is spotty
• Getting a local phone number may not be possible
• Calls to people on cell phones sometimes has bad sound quality
• Outbound calls sometimes, very rarely, require more than one attempt
• Inbound calls sometimes go to voice mail instead of ringing the phone

When all things are considered, I'm sold on Vonage, but it may not be for everyone.

In short, if you live and breathe communicating on the telephone, then it's not for you. But if you are the type who wants a telephone, but doesn't us it that much, or uses it mostly for long distance calls, then Vonage is for you.

I signed up. My router will be here on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll do a full review after I make a few calls.

Dwayne, I took your review into consideration, and it still seems like a very good idea.

Actually, my service has improved over the past few months. I speculate that the increase is performance is due to the upgrade in the quality of the cable infrastructure Cox initiated before introducing their own broadband telephone service in my area.

I forgot to add one more major advantage to the Vonage system ... portability.

I could literally move to London and as long as I take my Vonage router with me, I can hook it up to a DSL line in London and still receive my phone calls on the same phone number I used in the United States.

Ok...I've used it, and I like it. The only negative comment I have is that when my roommate is on his cordless phone, and I'm on mine at the same time, I can hear them...But thats easily remedied by changing the channel of the phone.
