I THINK SO. I LIKED Q'S ROLE IN THE EPISODE AS WELL AS THE VISION OF THE MID 21ST CENTURY BARBARIC COURTS. IT KIND OF DRAGGED, IT COULD'VE BEEN DONE IN ONE HOUR, BUT IT WAS STILL A GREAT CONCEPT. THE INTRODUCTION OF ALL THE CHARACTERS WAS GOOD. I ESPECIALLY LIKED DATA IN THE HOLODECK AT THE BEGINNING. WE SAW THE BATTLE BRIDGE FOR THE FIRST AND I THINK THE ONLY TIME EVER. SAUCER SEPARATION WAS GROOVY. NOT TO MENTION STEWARTS ACTING WHICH IS ALWAYS RELIABLY GOOD NO MATTER HOW SILLY THE PLOT IS. |

It was written to be a 1 hour show, but TV bosses wanted a 2 hour show, so there was an 11th hour re-write, and Q was born. The Battle Bridge was seen a couple of times. |

They certainly had plenty of bells and whistles for it. The best part I thought was McCoy at the end. Really gave it a good send off. |

Damn, it's been too long since I've seen TNG. Must start collecting on DVD. I have been waiting for the prices to go down, but it's been what? three years now? |

No, I don't think it was a very good start. At least not compared to other Trek series. Of all of them, I believe "Encounter at Farpoint" to be the weakest. Even over "Broken Bow". The best thing that came out of the episode was Q. The Ferengi, when mentioned by Picard in Zorn's office, sounded much more ominous than they were eventually developed to be. Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed McCoy's appearance, but in part I was disappointed because he was never once referred to by name. He was just referred to as an old Starfleet Admiral who did not like using the transporter. It's obvious it was him, but his usage could have been better executed. I think the way the character of Wesley was handled in this episode is part of the reason why so many people don't like the character. Picard's anger, and I do mean actual anger, at his appearance in the turbolift with his mother was practically cruel. My first impressions of both Troi and Yar were not good one either. I am glad that the series prospered so well despite this episode. |

I perfered McCoy to say Picard in ds9's launch and Quark in Voyager even though they were good. There simply wasn't a need to say who he was. Either you knew or you don't and I doubt someone saying McCoy would ahve made things clearer. To play it any longer would have turned it cheesy and dodgy, personaly i think it was just right. Well it's a new ship - but she's got the right name. Now you remember that, you hear?" -- Leonard 'Bones' McCoy "I will, Sir" -- Data "You treat her like a lady, and she'll always bring you home" -- McCoy |

Indeed. For a weak premiere (I don't find it as bad as others do though) this was the best scene.

Everyone seemed to be a little uncomfortable with each other in the first few episodes. |
