Titled: Howard rides a wave of approval

I find it interesting how different our forms of government are. To whit:

Quote:

Mr Howard's approval rating has lifted to 60 per cent and his dissatisfaction rating has fallen to 30 per cent - levels not seen since June 2003.

That sounds a lot like the US system of poll approval, but:

Quote:

AS Labor grapples with its leadership crisis, John Howard's Coalition has retained its strong lead over the ALP in the first Newspoll of this year.

And the Government's handling of the tsunami-relief effort appears to have met public support, with a lift in the Prime Minister's approval rating.

However, Mark Latham has bowed out of political life with a marked rebuff from voters. Half the electorate was dissatisfied with his performance.

The Newspoll, taken exclusively for The Australian at the weekend, shows Coalition primary vote support at 46 per cent and Labor at 37 per cent - close to the result at last October's federal election.

Coalition government makes me scratch my head!

Well for your information , since there is currently no lead of the opposition as Lathan has retired because he is too ill . That's not at all surprising.

Now should Breazley become head of the opposition (next few days or next week) , Howard might get a run for his money as Breasley is very well liked in the community whereas Lathan wasn't much liked.

And yes - on the matter of the Tsunami relief effort, he showed rare national and international leadership for him and it has earnt him some browny points.

The coalition is a firthy. They are two shades of the same thing. Conservative and ultra-conservative. Neither would make government by themselves.

The term coalition makes it a bit misleading, its not really two partys coming together.

A combination of the Liberal Party and the National Party, where the National Party is basically the lIberal party in rural areas.

I dont think the've ever stood as sepereate entities in an election, we not since federation anywy (1901)

As for the succes of Howard as a leader.

Latham showed that he was too immature, The Labour Party really only have them selves to blame , too much factional infighting has seen, err... about three different leaders in about 5 years.

Beazley is the only one that has a chance of leading Labour to Victory, the only one that looks and feels like a PM
