How about a Voyager Movie

I for one enjoy the Political (USA) Political range we have on this board. I would like to see the range of the spectrum explored here through carefull and disciplined discussion and debate. Some of us like me are more 'centrist' in views. Others of us are right conservative or left liberal to some degree. I would find it interesting and educational to propose a forum or thread where we as a community elect the top three of both parties to form an unofficial panel. From there we can debate any given topic, much like Hannity and Combes or Evans and Novak. Once we nominate candidates we can vote in separate polls and elect the top three for each party. This will greatly enhance the knowledge for all of us on our basis for beliefs as per our affiliation. I want to float this idea and see your response. From there someone should start separate threads for nominiee members of sistertrek lefties and righties. All can vote in election of the top three of each side. The ultimate goal is to have a 3v3 panel (pinned) where posters can ask questions and recieve idealogical answers. As the longest running members from left and right, I request AdBill and IE to start a thread each respectively and outline BASIC PRINCIPLES of their party, their flavor and influence of interpretation is welcome and should be accepted as such for now. Afterward, the party may adopt their own specific Mantra. You guys game??? |

Who gets Nominated for Centrist on this board? This accually sounds like a good idea (as long as it stays civil) and I think that thread would be a great place for anyone to tell what their party's response is to any given point. Just so long as it's a leftist telling the left point of vew, ect. This would make a good experiment- at the least. |

So as the boards only Libertarian, I should have an automatic seat? Sillyness, all of it. you can do that now by reading any political post, wide range of opinions and worldviews. Why restrict it, unless you can't filter out the tangent posts? Why inact it since you can't perform realtime moderation to guarentee equal time? I won't bother to observe a restricted thread. |

I think this tread would be more along the lines of: New member: so what are the various positons here on [insert subject here] Member 1: well, I'm all for that.... Member 2: I don't think it's such great idea... as opposed to: new member: what do you think about this issue? Member1: I think it's a bad idea. I really don't like that proposal at all. Member2: Member 1 is absolutly wrong! you nieve fool, you think the world revolves around you. well, wakeup time! you are completly and totally wrong! there is nothing wrong with that idea at all! Ever noticed how that's how our discussions go? this thread would be moderated, and (hopfully) be able to avoid all that. |

I am against this for several reasons: 1) This panel/voting for specific members will create a hierarchy in this forum by promoting a special class of posters/debaters. 2) The idea is a bit redundant since we all discuss on a regular basis anyway (in a way where everyone can join in). 3) This isn’t a University. Let’s not turn the Politics forum into a standoffish/elitist academic setting. The Politics forum is already turning into a sub-community that is highly exclusionary of other members (especially new members). I am not even going to go into the sub –groups that make this forum even more exclusionary. |

Dante - take me out of the Left. I would be in the centre. At least the Canadian Centre. I am not too keen on the idea anyways. |

I don't know that you are the only Libertarian on this board ANOVA. I agree with several issue from the Libertarians. And, even advocate some. #2 I am for any 3rd party joining the ranks, equal to the power of Dems and Republicans. It's interesting to see what happens to 3rd party canidates. Or should I say shameful. |

Jag, No, I don't think it is a good idea. First, we already have a politics forum. Second, I don't know how others feel, but pigeonholing one politically assumes that one's ideas and opinions are often unchanging. |
