Min, I'll have to keep my eyes out for a comparitive with past Inaugurations.

I did find this comment:

A hastily organized inauguration in 2001 cost about the same as this year's event. In 1997, President Clinton's inauguration cost about $33 million -- although it included more inaugural balls.

In terms of Today? modern ones or historic ones?

For modern ones, the newspaper had a little graph- the Cheapest- Carter. most expensive: Need I say?

Of course security has to be higher. This is the first inauguration since 9/11.

I noticed that no one mentioned that.

I was really hoping others might consider that without it having to be mentioned. I guess some don't want to think about it...

I am glad we have so many mind readers here at Sister Trek.

Just because someone doesn't specifically mention it on the thread, it doesn't mean it hasn't been considered at all (or that someone wasn't going to mention it). I just posted this thread this evening. Also, the Inauguration isn't until tomorrow. Many may have not even seen this thread yet.

I would think that would be a given.

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
From what I heard on the news, accounting for inflation, the 1933 inaugural was by far the most expensive. And during the great depression, even.

This sure is a silly thing to criticize the President about.

Bush Inaugural Message Marked by Hope

According weather.com, it is currently 33° F in DC. Brrrrrr...wouldn't want to be outside giving that speech today.

It also snowed last night. So I guess the emphasis will be on the red (noses), white (snow) and blue (lips) today at noon Eastern time. :)

I hope everyone has a great time at the taxpayer's expense.

^Sisko, a good portion of the Inauguration is paid for by private donations.

All Presidents have Inaugurations, and some of that is and should be paid for by tax payers (especially security).

You are starting to sound a little too petty on this issue IMO.

Once again, Sisko, this is not at taxpayer expense (except for security). Factoring in inflation, this is not the most expensive inauguration.

I agree with 24's assessment.
