Inaugural Price Tag: $30M-$40M

Thank goodness that price tag is in large part paid for by private donations.

And if you don't care for the inauguration, please feel free to come to the Monterey Bay Area. Protests are scheduled for the cities of Santa Cruz, Watsonville and Monterey...

I thought some of our members might like this Clinton quote.

Expense Draws Wrath, but Not From Charities (Need to Register to View)

Article

Former president Bill Clinton said the show should go on. "I voted for the other fellow, but President Bush won this election fair and square," Clinton said on "Larry King Live."

"His supporters should be able to celebrate it however they see fit. And I don't think that it will detract one red cent from the money that we will give privately or publicly to this relief effort," he said.

Hey! That's almost as much as we gave to the Tsunami relief effort.

Here's hoping for a clearer day than last inauguration. Hate for rain to drown such an expensive fanfare!

I guess this is why what is planned for several of the major communities in my area sort of irks me. This is one of the moments where the game is over and you let the winner celebrate and say "good game!".

However, the anti-Bush sentiment really reigns here still. I have seen more than one car with white window paint that says "Not My President", or obiviously new bumper stickers with those, or similar words. I really think that if they thought they could get away with it, the region from the Monterey Bay to somewhere north of SF would secede from the Union for at least the next four years...

Technically, California is the 5th or 6th largest economy in the world including the US, which it contributes to. California could probably self sustain.

:rotfl: You're talking about the Bush administration. We got two wars going on, plus a Mars mission, now a 30-40 million party for the mutual admiration society all paid by deficit spending!!!!

There's fiscal responsibility for you!!! :loling: :loling:

I don't think the 30- 40 million (which is for the parade, parties, other hoopla) includes security.

I read an article last week that mentiond a 15 - 25 million dollar amount for security, in which the city of Washington, DC was supposed to pay for. I don't know what came of that, or how the security costs are going to be worked out though.

T'Lac-- Most of the 30- 40 million pays for the parade, celebrating and the nine or so Inauguration balls that take place tomorrow night.

Edit: I found this op/ed:

:ermm:

Don't they know how to use a smaller amount of money and still have a good parade and party?

Are they spending significantly more then past inaugerations?

That is the real test. If they are not spending more then Clinton did (don't forget to adjust for inflation) then why is anyone complaining.
