I'd like to point out to Sisko that Pres. Bush went to the UN in Sept. 2002 in an attempt to gain cooperation from the UN on Iraq.  Heck, for that matter, he went to the UN in Nov. of 2001 to gain support for broader action in taking on rogue states, which when one considers what Iraq was the 2001 speech was for basically the same reasons as the 2002 speech.

Personal Response

Those two speeches quite possibly are the best he ever made.

Truthfully, I didn't question the UN much until hearing the second one. Obviously they had screwed up Rwanda, but otherwise I hadn't.

The second speech, however, clearly explained why the UN was in a fight for it's life to prove itself relevant in the world today. I am NOT saying that it was a US threat - it was nothing of the kind. It's own response (the UN's) dictated its own future.

What it did was go back to basic leadership/management principles. People can be assigned roles, but they don't get leadership roles unless they ARE leaders. Authority - true authority - isn't given, it's earned.

By allowing itself to be manipulated by so many different countries on so many different issues, the UN has ceased to exercise a leadership role.

You certainly have an excellent command of the English language and are able to express yourself in a manner I can only dream about.

What especially stood out were the words cited above. You are absolutely correct about the issue of leadership as it applies to the United Nations, and I couldn't have said it better.
