Evidence of WMDs? Where? Can you post a link?

Wichita: So I guess that's a no.

Dan: Interesting theory, so Hussein MEANT for us to take over Iraq. That makes sense.

Did you not know that Saddam used WMDs (I HAVE ALREADY STATED THIS, AND YOU IGNORED IT) on Iran and on Kurdish Iraqis in the 80s and 90s. His report to the UN in December 2002 stated that he still POSSESSED WMDs.

So, he used them in the past, on several occasions. He threatened to use them on us. He claimed he still had them.

What does this lead your brilliant mind to believe? That he didn't have them?? :thud:

Time to put something here
Sisko: Do you think one single nations has the right to hold back other nations from exercising their sovereignty? Was it right for France to hold the UN hostage from making a desertion on the subject by threatening to Veto any vote on the matter?

Wichita: Point taken, but were there League of Nations inspectors in Japan investigating them at the time?

Personal Response

Did somebody suggest waiting until after the weekend to meet again? ("After all, what could happen .......")

So we do have the legitimacy to authorize the invasion of sovreign nations.  Just wanted to clear that up.  Thanks AB.

Wichita: Point taken, but were there League of Nations inspectors in Japan investigating them at the time?

Yes, we did. We had AND HAVE the legitimacy to invade any country on Earth. Like, say, Afghnistan. What is your anal fixation with the useless UN? They are NOT a world government. They have no powers to tax or actually ENFORCE anything.

Boy this is fun debating 5 people at the same time.

So invading other countries is the same as "exercising" our sovreignty? Similarly, China says that Taiwan and Tibet are thier territories. Invading them would be exercising thier sovreignty too right?

And Hitler said part of Austria and Poland was their territory too.

Again AB, if they exist WHERE ARE THEY? I don't buy that Hussein deliberately wanted us to destroy his country. Who would do that? I KNOW he HAD WMDs in the 80s. We GAVE them to him.

You are ignoring most information that conflicts with your POV anyway ...

Off to work...

:wave2: Great talking to you!! I can do this and work at the same time!!

I do apologize for not getting to everyone's questions. That tends to happen when you debate the rest of the board you know.

I'm sure glad everyone was able to discuss this in a fairly rational and sane manner.

Wichita and Minuet both had great points especially on the issue of cooperating with the UN.

I'd like to point out to Sisko that Pres. Bush went to the UN in Sept. 2002 in an attempt to gain cooperation from the UN on Iraq. Heck, for that matter, he went to the UN in Nov. of 2001 to gain support for broader action in taking on rogue states, which when one considers what Iraq was the 2001 speech was for basically the same reasons as the 2002 speech.

Those that imply or believe America rushed to war might have a point if Iraq had never been a problem prior to 2001, but that's not the case. Iraq had been a seriously problem for over a decade prior to that time, and just because Mr. Bush was a new president doesn't mean the world resets itself and everything Saddam had done prior to that was forgotten.

Now sisko, when you say we could have waited another 30 days, you're right ... we could, but then you could also argue we should have acted 30 days prior. There were strategic and environmental reasons for why we went when we did, and since Saddam Hussein has spent the past decade thwarting UN resolutions, giving inspectors another 30 days would not have accomplished anything.

I have to say to all except benetil, I really like your responses and I really enjoyed reading this thread! It was very entertaining.

You realize you are not debating if you are wrong; you are simply arguing for the sake of argument...

I did read the thread, but I don’t want to join the conversation. Sorry about taking your thread onto a tangent. I was just kidding with you. I promise this is my last reply. :wave2:
