Harry says sorry for Nazi costume

Harry took a big risk by wearing that costume. I don't think he meant any harm and he did apologize. Definitely in bad taste.

Do you think this stunt will (or should) have a negative impact on his military or royal career (as a potential leader)?

It will have an impact on his military career because he might not get into Sandhurst (Sandhurst is Britain's Royal Military Academy).

^^^ Maybe it should have an impact - but it won't.

We aren't talking about an average Joe off the street we are talking about a royal prince.

I don't think he intentionally meant to attract so much attention. Although the experience with WWII is still in the memory of many still living, the fact is, Nazis mean something else to younger generations: The villains we love to hate.

Think about it, how many movies, TV shows, etc. have Nazis as the all-purpose bad guys? I can name about a dozen comic books for you right now. And here's the thing about that. I myself am (mostly) German, and I don't take offense to it. The fact is, Hitler was insane and he took down most of the country with him. Not to mention the fact that there are many German Jews and other minorities that were persecuted by this fringe political party. And I think most people realize German does not mean Nazi anymore. I could be wrong, but he could've been dressed as a villain from some pop movie.

Just my two pennies. ;)

The fact that he's third in line to the throne should have told him something. Harry screwed up. Even his brother William came to the party in costume... as a lion.

Now it would have been funny if he came to the party as a Nazi cow from the movie "Top Secret!"

or if he dressed as a NAZI and had a rope around his neck like he was being hung.

Or as Col. Klink or Sargent Sultz (I know nothing, nothing!)

This is an interesting turn of events...

Harry's Swastika Prompts Talk of EU Ban

I am not fond of Nazi symbols myself. However, to outright ban the average Joe from wearing or displaying symbols related to Nazism would be a step towards one of the many things that I despised about Nazism (reduction of freedoms).

Now, I would have issues with (I would be opposed to) such symbols being displayed/used in a public (gov't) capacity.

Also, nice to see Harry's father is an involved parent...

I agree. I also beleive that France has a law that prohibits the selling of NAZI artifacts. Which I also think is close to fasisim. I mean, a collector of war memobrilia might like to have a capture Luger, or NAZI flag, for his own personal museum. I would someday like to have a collection of war artifacts, and I'd be nice to own some Nazi weapons, as well as Soviet, Itailian, Japanese. Not just American. It seems like some in Europe want to erase what the Nazis did. I heard that if Prince Harry wore that in Germany, he would have been arrested and charged with a crime. That is outragous. What if he did believe in Nazism? Doesn't Europe have freedom of expression? Freedom of Speech? That is one of the nice thing about America, you're free to say anything (well mostly anything, but that is another topic). You can say the stupidest, dumbest, most outragous things, short of slander and libel. That doesn't give you the right to be heard, though. If someone disagrees with what you're saying, they can debate you, or ignore you. If you wanted to call a black man a n*****, you have the right, but most people will think very unpleaseant thoughts of you. (and depening on who you say it too, it could cause bodily harm). Policing ones thoughts are dangerous, and will lead to dictatorships.

Speak softly, and carry a 57 megaton stick!
So, in an attempt to quash fascism in Europe, Europe employs fascist techniques.

That's poetic justice for you.

It should have an impact, but it won't. If the fact that he is as thick as two short planks hasn't prevented his military career by now, I doubt this recent incident will.

He is a royal and will continue to live an overprivaleged sheltered life until we wake up and have the sense to send the lot of them packing.

Definitely.

I think Harry did a stupid thing. He screwed up. He should have known that with his position comes a great responsibility. Maybe he did it to mock Nazis. Who knows? He apologized for it.

Personally, I think the EU banning Nazi materials is stupid. They are just trying to sweep an abhorrent part of history under the rug. "Those who cannot learn from history to repeat it!"

Was anyone here offended when they saw Kirk and Spock wearing those kinds of uniforms in Patterns of Force?

Neither was I. But I'm certain that some may have been offended--even though those wearing the uniforms were Jewish.

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
Could there be a fine difference here between using the Nazi uniform as part of a gag and portraying them on screen as in Hogan's Heroes?
