Alright folks, it's about time that I think about my future. I have already decided that I want to be an astrophysicist, but what I don't know is which university I want to go to. Now folks this this where you add in. I have three universities in mind. Queens, York, and U of T. They all have excellent astrophysics programs, and York and U of T is close to where I live. I don't know which one to go to. I have one more year left in high school, and then I am off into post-secondary education, and I don't know which school. So how about you folks help me out a little bit? I'm growing old

If it was up to me, I would choose a school without a football team. If there's one on your list that is.

As you say - all are excellent schools. I guess your decision at this point should strongly factor in whether or not you want to go away to school or stay close to home. Should you decide to stay home (and probably that would save you a lot of money) York's reputation as a university has grown in the last few years, but U of T would probably still look better on a resume. Sisko - all three schools he is discussing are Canadian and the athletic programs do not have the same effect on the tuition here. |

When you say "close to home" how close do you mean? What I am trying to say is that I think its good to go to a Uni which is a good distance from home but not so far that it makes it very hard to get back. I know people who moved from very near the uni and they always going back home on weekends etc which means they miss out on uni life and I dont think they get the same feeling/experience of independence. I'm 150 miles away from home but because its not a major route between the two places that turns into 4 hours journey. |

^^^The University of Toronto and York University are both in Toronto where Ngagh currently lives. He could actually live at home instead of on campus if he chooses one of these schools Queens University is in Kingston which is a few hours away. Close enough to come home on weekends, but he would have to live on campus, or at least in Kingston. Ngagh - I went to York U. For me it was extremely close to where I lived with my parents. I could ride my bike there in the good weather. I made friends that lived on campus and actually ended up spending a fair number of weekends on campus with them. Living at home does not mean giving up the university experience. What you get out of it depends on what you put into it. In the end choose the school that you feel most comfortable with after checking them all really carefully. |

Maybe I could take a program in DuckTapelogy. Sisko: Football really isn't my sport, but give me a good basketball... Minuet: I still have a year to decide, and still have American Universities to see, although I'm sure that they will be out of my financial range. I have seen most of the Universities in Ontario, and those three seem the best of the best. York, and Toronto are close to where I live, and where my friends are, so those are always plus'. Queens on the other hand has my older friends, who can show me the riegns. Arrg! The decisions!

It whatever you feel comfortable with doing and think is going to be best for you, which doesnt really help you make the decision. I found that by moving away from home and friends, but into a semi-controled environment, I was forced to make new friends, and also become independent from my parents. All the best for your choices anyway
