In Pennsylvania there have been several thefts of windshield wiper rubber parts by a bird

MUNCY, Pa. - Dozens of windshield wipers on vehicles have been damaged or just plain stolen over the past few weeks. Each time however, the culprit manages to take flight, literally.

Television reports blame a crow or raven for ripping the rubber right off the blades at an industrial park.

Workers at the plants have had to replace more than 40 wiper blades in the past two weeks.

That's wild. The rubber must insulate their nests. Those PA birds sound like they're pretty smart.

And it probably will not be prosecuted, either.

One year, at Day Camp, we had a bird that was fascinated by rearview mirrors. He/she would sit on the top of the mirror and peck at its own reflection. It kept rotating between the right and left side of the car. It would go from car to car doing this.

The ranger made a point of warning all the visitors that they needed to keep their car windows closed. One woman refused to pay attention to him. When she got back to her car, she found the bird had flown inside the car back and forth between all three mirrors. Being a bird, it had done what birds do - on her car seat. Given that rasperries were in season, her car seats were quite colorful.

But if they are just like people (like some organizations have claimed in the past), then they ought to be prosecuted.
