It will be interesting to see where this leads over the next ten or fifteen years, particularly for the profession. :)

Its inevitable I suppose, I use Safari online, that has text ebooks when I need snippets of information.

But for intense study , theres nothing like grabbing a towel sitting on the beach for a couple of hours with a real textbook, I wouldnt do that if I had a laptop

Neither would I. I don't read anything of substance using a computer.

As far as I can tell, they are only going to begin with full digitization of copyrighted material. Newer materials will have only snippets included. But Oxford, Harvard, U. of Michigan, and Stanford are some big-name universities (and libraries).

LOL! I thought you were joking at first.

College and University? Universities are comprised of several 'colleges.' Colleges which are stand alone are usu. elitist or very short on funds.... ;)

usu?

Its just on American TV shows, you here them saying their 'off to college', you dont hear the word University much.

Were as here most going on to tertiary education go to Uni, we dont have many 'colleges' usually an institution is called a college if its for people not smart enough to get into Uni, or for something very very specialised, that the Unis dont offer

Yeah , I know but LCD screens arent really that suitable.

and the cost of such products would have to get down to around $50 mark for them to be popular

That is just a cultural thing, not many people will say “university” over “college” while engaged in everyday speak, regardless of which one they are really talking about.

For example I went to a SUNY school – wich stands for Sate University of New York, but when I talk about it I will say my college.
