What is the deal with being a race of listeners? I know they put that in there because Guinan is a bartender, a profession known for thier listening qualities but really how hard is it to listen? Maybe their long lives give them an edge on giving sound advice.

What do you think of having Whoopi be Guinan on Enterprise? I think it would be pretty cool. Ooooo, maybe she can be someone in Starfleet without them knowing she's really an alien.

It might be a good way of explaining what's up with cannon. If the Temporal Cold War altered history somehow, Guinan can explain that and what the consequences might be and how they can work to preserve the timeline.

Perhaps, there was nothing in Trek canon to say she hadn't worked for Starfleet in some capacity before.

I think hearing and listening are different things. Maybe they are more empathic.

You'd be surprised how people choose not to listen. You don't even have to look farther than our own society today.
