The wiring issue was an easy fix (for once).

I mixed a little chili powder with water, dipped a paper towel in it and wiped the wires with it. I didn't see any obvious reaction, but the wire chewing stopped.

I think that my dogs got a little 220, and that cured their wire chewing habit permanently. ;)

220VAC, amps would depend on the impedance of the dog to earth.
