I would like to declare that I have nothing to apologize for, therefore I will not apologize.

Thank you for taking the time to read this reply.

I just did and you are right - I should have included you at that point with Gvok as being restrained. :wave2:

I would like to declare that I must apologize for having read 24's previous post without having apologized for having done so at the time that I read the post which did not include the apology.

Thank you for taking the time to read this reply.

Apologetically,

It's so nice to see people being big enough to admit when they were wrong.

Did you just use the word maturity with respect to Fes?

In respect to being able to admit when he's wrong (and everyone else who is for that matter) but not about his age.

You're being tricky again arn't you?

No sweat Wichita.  I owe you an apology too for getting bent out of shape a couple times before.  Truce?

Absolutely

I'd like to add my apologies for the tacky behavior. Sometimes I like to tease my lefty-left leaning friends.... and that's all it was (teasing) and who it was directed to (Gvok and Sisko) No more.. no less. I hope no conservatives take offense to the teasing.....

Actually we all got together and decided it was your fault anyway ... ;)

See previous note. Intrepid's taking the fall for this one ...

I echo Minuet's statement ... B}

But as far as I know, most Republicans who call themselves conservatives also claim to not care about the debt.

I don't know what Republicans you know so it's quite possible its true for those people.

However, the statement as a whole is over-generalized. The Republican party has a big umbrella that convers divergent views. (I know that's true of Democrats too, but we're speaking about Republicans now.)

I sincerely doubt that "most" people who call themselves conservative Republicans claim not to care about the debt. I don't doubt there are Republicans who make the claim. I don't doubt that there are conservatives who make the claim, but I do doubt that they are "most" of anything.

It's just my impression, W. I'd be very happy if it wasn't true.

Personal Response (to Gvok)

From my personal perspective ...

I rarely listen to the weather report except in the winter. On a day to day basis in the spring, summer and fall, the worst that could happen is that I may get rained on and, since I am drip-dry, I don't see anything to worry about. Yes, we do get tornadoes, but they are infrequent and we have early warning systems in place.

The winter is different.

Some people automatically take their car in to get serviced and call the furnace guy for a check-up in the fall. They stock up on fuel if they have a fireplace and make sure they have a few days of food in the freezer in case they can't go out. They check the news daily and adjust their activities based on the weather report. If you asked if they were worried about winter storms, they would ask you what's to worry about.

Some people check the weather daily. They hope that the weather isn't going to change for the worse, but when it does, they stop on the way home to load up on bread and milk and fill their tank in the car before things get too bad. They have the name of a furnace guy to call if something goes wrong.

Some people look out the window and see that snowing is falling. They wonder if their kid - already at school - has warm mittens or a hat. They call on friends to help get food for them and beg for a ride to work because they are afraid of what the winter storm is going to bring. They wonder if they paid the heat bill this month.

How do you tell which of the three is concerned about winter storms? Is one more concerned than others simply because they are the ones vocalizing their concerns? Is the one who has prepared in plenty of time for the worst more concerned although he/she doesn't appear to be concerned at all?

How can you judge?

This is not the my first time for the deficit to be large. It isn't the first time that I've heard "future generations" will be crippled by that debt.

It doesn't mean that I am not "concerned" - it means I spend my time doing what I can to prepare myself for whatever result is going to come. I recognize others are not as capable and do what I can to help them. What I won't do is play chicken little and run about saying the sky is falling.

I consider myself to be fairly average and have to think that most people who are also fairly average treat it the same way. They are concerned, but refuse to let it rule their lives.

No one is letting it rule their lives. I merely would prefer to have politicians in office who are willing to take steps to fix the problem.
