I would think the military would want people and especialy the press to take them at their word. Much of the anger of Iraqis against the US is based on mistrust. |

Personal Response Yes, but that's not generated by the American media, but outlets like Al Jazeera. End of Personal Response |

I don't agree with your statement. But, it certainly doesn't help that the US military diliberately diseminates misinformation. |

The military does not care what the LSM thinks. They were burned by Vietnam and STILL do not trust them to give a straight story. Any anger from Iraqis is generated by their own press, not ours... although I wouldn't be surprised if the Baathists don't get CNN for free. |

What part of THIS IS WAR do you not understand? Would you rather we gave away battleplans, troop strengths, and locations? |

Again, credibility goes a long way, especially in a conflict where we are trying to win hearts and minds of both the Iraqis and the world community. |

How about instead of giving wrong information the people in the military simply shut up and give no information whatsoever. No comment can go a long way and no one can be accused of lying afterwards.

True but misleading can be more effective. As in this situation the misleading served a purpose far more effectively then just keeping silent. |

And I think this might have a negative effect on the military's credibility. |

No it won't... because they don't care. The military has a simple mission. They guard us. They kill people. They destroy things. How the LSM views them is about as high on their priority list as ensuring that Humvee's have little lace doilys on the seats. I think someone else's drawers are in a wad. This is called psy-ops, short for psychological warfare. It works. Get used to it. We'll be seeing a lot more of it. |
