AB,

I honestly hope you're right. I'm just not ready to believe it yet.

Well, my spending does have to do with the current economy. I can't recall a time where the economy was thriving this well--maybe the 1980s. :)

... and this time it isn't built on a fabricated bubble of "what if" and technical buzzwords.

True. I prospered rather well then and now. I hope the economy continues its upward movement. :)

Well then, it's nice to hear at least one person is doing well currently.

Edit:

Is this a reference to the 80s or the 90s?

IE,

Define prosperous, please. (I mean your own words as to what it means to prosper, rather than a dictionary definition.) I know many people who believe they are doing very well currently. :)

The 90s, especially the period of late 1995 until early 2000.

I still haven't read anyone talk about what metrics would define a "Good economy".

Me, I'd say 3-5% annual growth in the GDP with a 2% inflation rate

A 12% annual shrinkage in the national debt.

Employment of between 80 and 90% (Unemploymenyt rates are bogus and discount too many people.)

Steady to mildy decreasing new home sales (the 4% interest rate made new home starts unstastainable at the present rate), with a 1-2% increase in first time (starter) homes.

A rise in the median income of 1-2%, discounted for inflation.

A rise in new business starts.

A sustained increase in the Dow (>10%) with a similar increase int the NASDAQ.

I think if a majority of these things occurred then one MUST admit the the economy is doing well.

No downward or stagnant trendline would indicate the the economy is no longer "faultering"

I can't say I'm prosperous. Since I'm am gainfully employed wereas I was a student 4 years ago, I maust admit to being a statistical outlier.

Anova,

Thanks for the guidelines. Maybe I'm not prosperous--I really don't know what that means, and I have no context in which to know. But I do know that we are always in the black, and that our income-to-debt ratio is well within reasonable limits. :)
