Right. You should never let a history professor tell you about history. It should be spoon fed from AM radio talk shows.

Perhaps if you'd read history instead of trying to rewrite it...

Please. I studied history for several years in college. No faceless dittohead on a message board is going to convince me that years of college lecture, text, essay and research papers was somehow taken out of context. I am a student of history. I have an excellent grasp on it.

Yes, but can you reduce your knowledge into one sentence cliches? Because otherwise I refuse to believe it.

What's your degree in, smart guy? Bad Rhetoric?

By the way, what was your focus of history? The 60s in Berkeley? :rotfl:

Guys - knock it off.

That goes for all three of you.

For the record 38957 was refering to one poster who takes the word of one teacher as the be all and end all of every discussion. He is not taking a very balanced view of things.

^^^I wasn't saying that you were not taking a balanced view - I meant the poster you were refering to was not taking a balanced view. There was no need for the three kids to turn this into a fight

It seems that the economy grew faster than expected for the third quarter.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...o_ec_fi/economy

Titled: Economy Grows Faster Than Expected in 3Q.

Enjoy the boom.

Not so fast. That wasn't all good news in there.

The Conference Board (news - web sites)'s Consumer Confidence Index (news - web sites) fell to an eight-month low of 90.5 in November, the fourth month in a row that confidence declined.

"Consumers are alive and well but not as lively as in the summer," said Stuart Hoffman, chief economist at PNC Financial Services Group.

Yet high energy prices and concerns about the job climate are affecting consumers' feelings about the economy's direction, analysts said.

Crude oil prices hit a record high of just over $55 a barrel in late October. Prices settled at $49.13 a barrel on Tuesday.

And the jobs recovery — while improving — isn't as firmly rooted as the economy's recovery.

I'll wait to see what happens in the long run before I start any celebrating.

Having said that, despite my personal lack of confidence in the health of the economy, I'm spending the same during these holidays as I would in a boom or in a recession. In other words, the economy and how much I spend aren't related at all for me. So how accurate is consumer spending really as an indicator of economic well-being I wonder...?

(By the way, the title of the article you linked as it came up for me is: Splurging Shoppers Help Maintain Economy.)

Here's the problem, IE... THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR, but everyone in the media (and on the left, for that matter) has either tried to ignore it or wish it away. To be honest, I'm baffled.

Look at economic growth since, say, 2nd quarter of 2003. Averages out to nearly FIVE percent. I'm saddened that some people out there either don't want us to experience real economic growth under this administration, or want things to get worse. I'm not accusing you of this, but it has been noticed here and elsewhere.

As for me, I'll be spending a bit more this year, but not a phenominal amount, at Christmas. I'll actually be buying more gift cards and books, though.

As for the title change of the article, Yahoo has a tendency to do that. No idea why. Maybe they just were not happy with the first one?
