Time to put something here

On the matter of "post reviews", yes the ball is in Bill's and Sisko's court. You have agreed to it, they have yet to respond to this post (perhaps they haven’t read it). As to the over all problem between the three of you, the ball is still in all of your courts. At any time any one of you can act mature and extract your self from the childs play. |

I am opposed to the random part of this it leaves the police a opening to abuse and horras some parts of society. If this type of testing was added to the drunk driving check point system i would agree to it as they must be anounced in advance and target every one. |

Here we don't see it that way. Driving while intoxicated or under the influence is very dangerous and while it is sometimes inconvenient to be flagged down and tested (breath testing takes only a minute or so, drug testing as described with take about 5 minutes) we accept that as bonefide safety measure and don't mind one little bit (unless we have been doing something we shouldn't have been doing - in which case you are in big trouble). The police don't ask for any ID at the time , unless you have a positive test - that's never happened to me - being tea-tottle and I'll generally joke with the cop who's dealing with me. The police don't carry out random roadside alcohol testing in the USA ? I'm glad I don't drive in the USA if that's the case. As to random testing in the work place - it's a safety issue and a serious one and I support it 100%. |

:offtopic: That's half the fun isn't it ? Why else would we all keep coming back and sparring with each other ? (And some people's buttons are really easy to push.) end :offtopic: |

Speak softly, and carry a 57 megaton stick!

Well, here's the thing. Legally, how far is it from allowing the police to randomly pull you over to check if you have committed a crime or not and allowing them to come into your house every once in a while to make sure you are not breaking the law? |

I voted Yes, I would oppose - and most vigorously, especially since this is a zero tolerance policy, any amount of illegal substance in your body and you get booked. Also there is too much room for abuse of this legislation, the police have recently used a similar law to do random searches at our train stations. Sniffer dogs used to point out persons with drugs on them. I didnt think much of this until about a year ago when I was searched at Sydney Central Station, I hadnt been anywhere near drugs for about a week before that, and the dog didnt even point me out, it was just waking around, still apparently that was enough for the police to search through my bag in front of everyone. The whole thing was BS, I saw an article in the paper a couple of weeks later about the amount of complaints civil liberty orgs were getting about it, then some figures about millions in operation costs to nab half a dozen people that actually had drugs on them, most of the fines were for dangerous weapons, which is really what the police where searching for. The trouble is, you'd be crazy not to carry at least a pocket knife if your travelling on the train at night - becuase there aren't any police around! |

Maybe the cops thought you might be a villian or you might have something in your possession that you shouldn't have. How do you know there were drugs nearby a week or so before , you don't endulge do you ? or socialised with people who do ? I hope not - I thought better of you than that if you do. I think you'll find the cops had every right to search your bag at Central. For those of you who don't know what Central Station is like - it's a mad house (especially at peak hour) and is essentially the rail hub of the Sydney basin and is a very large many platform suburbian, regional and interstate train station. A similar thing applies when you go shopping, you must submit you bags to a search on leaving if asked. I have no problem with random searches of bags by police , especially since we became involved in Bush's war. You could have been a suicide bomber toating a bag full of high explosives or something worste. |

Not the same - you can be intoxicated sufficiently to be a danger to yourself and everyone else without obviously showing it. |

Scotty, I don't believe The Sisko will be responding to the question(s) put to him in this thread. |
