I hope this doesn't mean that he is returning to Texas. |

He must have seriously squandered his salary from CBS then. He could buy a house in my neighborhood for the price of one of his suits. Throw in the tie tack and he gets a larger patio.
I am just thinking that he really belongs and would feel more comfortable somewhere like NYC, Vermont, Maryland or similar and not here. |

Only with a tourist visa. He lost his Texas citizenship a long, LONG time ago! Gee, I wonder what he'll do? Maybe this scenario: "Welcome to McDonalds, I'm Dan Rather. May I take your order?" (blahbu-blah bu-blah bu-blah, and a Coke!) "I have just one undeniable question for you, sir. Would you like a hot apple pie?" Better yet, Wal-Mart is looking for greeters! "Welcome to Wal-Mart. I'm Dan Rather!" |

Anyone can get Texan citizenship. All you have to do is establish a residency there. |

^^I get the sense that AB is referring to more than the type of citizenship one obtains by simply establishing residence in the state. |

^Nothing in the legal sense. It is more cultural, who you identify with or how you are identified. Its something similar to someone saying they are Southern. It is more than a geographic location. It is culture, tradition, values...it is what is deep within your soul. Does that make sense? |

Sure. I suppose the word citizenship is more specific in my mind. |

It is Texan thing. You wouldn't understand. (Texas is the only state that was once its own nation.) |

I heard Dan Rather's daughter (I think) on the radio this morning saying that he had bought a place in Austin as that is where his grandson lives. In the immortal words of Archie Bunker "Awe geeze." |

How this is international news is beyond me - he's in the mid 70's about time he packed it in. But , then if Bill doesn't like him , he must be good. |

^^^ He's okay. I don't believe he is anywhere near as objective as David Brinkley. |
