Another reason why a politician, especially a US President, should not wear his religion on his sleeve is that a citizen should never have to question where his elected leaders' loyalties lay. Their job is to take care of the state. That should be their first priority.

Hmmmmmm. I agree. Is this why skull and bones is not important?

and AdmBill - Not disagreeing w/ you I just wanted to add: I don't think that JFK was flaunting his religion with politics (aside from God bless America), I believe he was being picked on for being catholic. I don't think JFK was recieving messages from God like Issiah, Joan of Arc, or W.

Very true. JFK was very clear on the separation between his religion and his role as President. Good point.

I've edited out the discussion of other posters and left discussion of the issue.

It appears the conversation is back to discussing the issue - let's continue to do so.

Us non believers basically see believers as being brain washed, not operating on all faculties, ready to accept some doctrines that go against common sense, to us that is scary. Which is why religion should be separate from state

Personal Response

When this claim was made before, I asked the person making it to provide an example when George Bush said that he had received a message from God. The person later responded by saying that they couldn't find one.

Perhaps you will have better luck. ;)

When did George Bush say that he had received a message from God?

Well I am a true person, are you suggesting other wise? Cause I can tell you right here and now that I am a person, not a rock, or a bird, or an alien, but a person - dash it all.
