it means speech voice

I was getting stimme from a Bach cantata Wachet Auf, Ruft Uns Die Stimme and I thought that it meant sing in this title. It means, "Sleepers Awake!" something or other.

38957,

T'Lac is correct. It's a technique employed by some composers from the Second Viennese School (Schoenberg, Berg, and Webern, among others).

"Wake up, a voice is calling us!" is apparently the english translation of this cantata.

Yeah, it kind of helped turn me on to choral music. The pipe organ part is almost haunting, it sends chills. I love the pipe organ.

Conan was also the head writer for SNL. I don't know if you have heard, but in about five years Leno, who I find incredibly unfunny, is retiring and Conan is taking his place. Conan is at least funnier than Leno, but still not as funny as Letterman.

Anyway, Shatners "singing" is so histarically terrible.
