I think the best 'death' in trek was Eddingtons, going down for a cause. I didnt have a problem with the way Data died, in fact I think it was the ONLY thing that was well done in Nemesis, what I did have a problem with was the 3 seconds it took the crew to mourn him. Spocks initial death was also rather inspiring, a good way to handle a death of a major character. The death of a main character is a rare event, it should be very dramatic. If Yar had to go in season one, her death would have been far more memorable if she had died in 'Conspiracy' in a shoot out with the aliens, or got killed by one of the robots in 'Arsenal of freedom'. Genesis was such a lame script that I cant think of when it would have been better for him to get killed off, maybe just a shoot out with Soran |

most were located in shuttlebay one, which is on decks 3/4 or the saucer section. it's the big square thing behind the bridge... in the shots of the saucer at rest, people were standing on top of it! (and they used a shuttle to pick up picard, didn't they?) my point is that the writes didn't think it through. Data's "death" was well done, but the fact that he's an android leaves it open to him coming back. personally I doubt B4 has much promise, but they could use lore- he's probably in a crate somewhere. anyway, to quote a favorite charicter of mine, "there are always possabilitys" |

there are two smaller shuttlebays in the stardrive section on the -D, but the main o bay is in the saucer. Constitution class vessels have them all in the stardrive section- could that have been what you were thinking of? |

I think Data's death was on par with Spock's *Mike prepared to dodge heavy objects* and, you can't deny it the scene at the end of Nemesis with Picard and B4 was a good one. Brought a tear to my eye anyway! |

First, I'm pretty sure that Picard was pretty busy. Second, cptjeff said 'picard didn't try to signal the enterprise.' Refuting that based on ship's capabilities is irrelevent. Picard didn't know the enterprise was damaged. |

Someone said the Enterprise's saucer section should have been able to withstand the impact of hitting a planet with critical systems undamaged, but how many times have we seen just one or two phaser shots knock out quite a few critical systems? The Enterprise was severly damaged and the warp core explosion knocking it out of orbit couldn't have helped matters. i don't think designers had planetfall in mind for something that big and powerful. |

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.

They weren't trying to crash land the saucer section, they were knocked out of control by the explosion of the drive section. They would have prefered to keep the thing in orbit. What they were doing was trying to prevent a crash from destroying totally the saucer section by skimming across the surface. The destruction and things flying around on the bridge were not indicative of a controlled landing, but rather a crash. The bridge was destroyed as was most of the rest of the saucer section, I don't think that they could have sent shuttles or transported Kirk to a sick bay that was probably in the same state as the bridge. |

Tha makes sense, since the Bridge is at the topof the ship, and it was wrecked. |
