Ah at last I am done writing an essay on European Democracy. While writing I have grown in my belief that the EU is a fairly undemocratic system. Check out the essay if you want to.

Here's the link: http://united-states-of-earth.com/article.asp?MenuID=3404

I've taken the liberty, as editor of US of E, to edit the premise at the very begining.

Hey I just got this assignment back today. My lecturer has just made me a very happy guy since I scored 94%. Anything above 70% is an A grade pass. Frankly I am in shock, guess I must be doing something right! :wow:

I thought it was quite good myself ... that's why I asked you if I may publish it on my site.

Tangent--

DS,

Question--How is anything above a 70% considered an A? Over here, that would be anything from a C- to an A. :headscratch:

Maybe you've discovered the reason why europeans student somehow score higher on tests than American student.

The pass mark range is +80% A (Outstanding), 70-79% A, 60-69% B, 50-59% C, 40-49% D. That doesnt mean its harder or easier than a system with different pass ranges since it depends how easy it is to pick up 1%. My experience is that *normally* the very best pieces of work will score around 85% max. Most good pieces would get 75%. It is unheard of to score in the 90's and that is why I nearly fell of my chair when I got the mark and the feedback sheet.

The good thing is the percentages are what count not the marks, they are just for guidance.

DS,

But does this mean that 8/10 correctly answered questions = 80%? Or am I missing something? In other words, is your scoring relative or absolute?

In a simple situation it would mean 8/10 answered questions. In more complex marking situations, such as this essay it is based on a set of criteria for each grade boundary and how well the work fits the criteria in each. As far as I know it is not dependent on other students marks. The whole class could fail or all could get 80%.
