In response to proton: :rotfl:

I have noticed that. It's like rock was in the 80s. Remember all those David Lee Roth videos? Sheesh. I thought it was tired then.

Sure I like to see bikinis on nice shaped women as much as the next guy, but seriously, enough is enough. That's what Baywatch is for after all. (You didn't think it had anything to do with plot or acting did you?) ;)

That is why we went to the 90s. To get away from the scantily dressed female eye-candy so we could look at unbathed, poorly dressed, depressed punks singing about how rotten everything is. Who wouldn't rather see this than fantasy women in bathing suits?

I suppose if you prefer your music to be about nothing at all, sure. ;)

I choose the first. My mom is so nit-picky on how things get done it's annoying. I look at it as if you get them done, it's effiecient, and you get them done in a period of time that was asked, that's good enough.

I would choose the latter. It kind of reminds me of how I taught history. I wasn't all that concerned that students memorize dates as much as they understood the how and why of events.

When I was a teenager, I preferred my music to be about guitar solos and pounding drums. When I watched a video, I'd rather see beautiful women than scraggly unbathed youts with bad hair and ragged clothing. But hey, I was a teenager. Trying to find meaning in pop music will just make you stupid.

With very few exceptions (Dylan, McLachlan, Morissette) I don't pay attention to the texts in pop music. But, I do pay attention to the harmonic progressions, as well as the meters, rhythms, melodies, and instrumentation used. :)

The exception I was going to make was Quiet Riot, but I'll back off that stance. :rotfl:

Now there's an exception. Those are profound, and would take several years to fathom correctly. :)

Let's not forget Cum on, feel the noise (such clever usage of puns).

Oh and bang your head, metal health will drive you mad. (I had to sit on a mountaintop in tibet fathoming this for several months.

Some songs do have meaning. That is part of creation of art, that it has meaning, if it's really good, it will have different meanings to different people. Much like Star Trek. ;)

It has meaning to me, but I'm an engineer and so it's all about fatigue, conductivity, stress fractures, corrosion, transient temperatures, dissimilar metal properties and similar.
