I almost forgot one other holiday story. My daughter wanted to buy her daycare teacher a red bracelet. So we found one that was acceptable to her with red in it. As my daughter handed the wrapped up gift to her teacher she said "Here's your red bracelet!" :loling:

I don't have children, but I do have 18 (or so) great nieces and nephews so I am going to borrow one of them.

Tonight, my brother-in-law's family had a wedding. I assumed the niece-in-law's Mom would watch the great-nephew if needed. So did the niece-in-law ... we were both wrong so they asked me to look after him during the ceremony portion.

Given that he is from Florida, only here for the holidays and doesn't know me well, I went for the bribe. I bought one of those toys that have the various shapes on each side and the plastic pieces to match the shapes. It seemed appropriate for a young man of 18 months.

He is at the lovely age where he can say some words clearly and others not at all. I started by watching him eat cut up "bens" (green beans), "dog" (hot dog), and "_" (cateloupe). All of this was mixed with some sign language that he does well and something that looked like he was finger spelling (although he obviously couldn't spell.) Then we dumped the blocks, I built dozens of structures and he knocked them down. It was great fun, but didn't last long.

I pull out the toy, he looks at it, and says "oval" while pointing at .... the oval. He can't say beans, but he understand "oval"? Clearly a budding genius ... ;) I asked him which was the triangle which he also got right. Then I pointed to half-circle and he said "melon". Clearly brilliant ....

Very nice stories indeed! :)

IE,

Our three-year old had all she could not to tell her brothers and sisters what she got them for Christmas this year. She was even offering to open up their presents for them! :)

Definitely brilliant. As for the mispronounced words, he probably knows all those but is so bright he's just bored. ;) :D

This isn't really a cute child story, but I thought this was the best place for it.

After my daughter's birthday in November and then Hanukkah and Christmas (we celebrate both holidays in my house), my daughters stock of toys seemed to double. We could hardly see our family room floor. So we decided to clean out some toys that weren't being used.

We figured my daughter wouldn't be happy about this so we waited until she was napping. Then we boxed up a bunch of old toys including a small plastic Elmo guitar that plays the Sesame Street theme. We put the box in the trunk of my car so we could donate it to charity.

She didn't notice a thing. Or at least she didn't complain. Later, when we were all going grocery shopping - my daughter included - everytime we went over a large bump, the Elmo guitar would start playing its song! So much for being discrete! :loling: Lucky for us my daughter didn't connect that her guitar shouldn't be in my trunk. She just laughed with my wife and I everytime it played.

Yesterday we were over at my parents house. My younger daughter decided to pretend she was a waitress taking orders in a restaurant. She would take our order and scribble on a pad of paper.

After coming around to everyone for about the 10th time my father decides to complain that he hasn't recieved his "food" I turned to my daughter and said something along the lines of "There is always at least one difficult customer and it looks like you have hit on one" Well, my daughter took me literally as 3 year olds tend to do and turned around and hit my father on the arm :rotfl:

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
I am trying to get my (soon to be) 4 year old to quit feeding my 20 month old from the table as though she is some kind of pet. She apparently thinks of the youngest as some kind of advanced toy/pet.

Last week my 3 year old daughter decided to put on 10 pairs of underwear! We, of course, made her take off the extra 9 and she wasn't too happy with us. The next morning she got dressed and came out to the kitchen in a great mood. We checked her underwear and sure enough she was wearing two. She was made to remove one and she was quite grouchy after that. My wife had a late meeting that night so I picked my daughter up from daycare and was in charge of getting supper prepared. Since my daughter likes to change her clothes when she gets home, I emphasized on the way home that she must only wear one pair of underwear. When we got home, she went to get dressed while I prepared supper. After awhile I realized she was taking much longer than usual. Thinking she must have many pairs of underwear on by now, I went to check. It turns out she listened to me and she only had one pair of underwear on. But she also had on 6 pairs of socks! :loling:

It's interesting to hear that other kids do this too. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but since she's our only child, I have no comparison point.
